NPC Follower - Marcurio - Bug... need a fix!

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:52 pm

Hi all,

I'm having some issues with Marcurio.

Basically, I installed a multi-follower mod from the Steam workshop which seems to have broken Marcurio. He was following me but since I installed it and tried to get another follower, he disappeared. I found him back at the bee and barb but now when I talk to him, I don't have any options. He just says, "I knew you couldn't stay away" and "Hi there". I've tried to reset him but to no avail. Does anyone have any more ideas? So far, the console has been useless.
I tried to Kill/Resurrect him, tried to resetAI, tried disable/enable, tried to move him... any ideas?? This is killing me as he was awesome to have as a follower! (I have also disabled the mod, reenabled it, deleted it, punched him, sliced him, etc etc). I'm looking for a reset of the character so I can take him back to square one and rehire him.

Cheers all

:D

Mods are great, but you have to be careful to read the full text file before launching them. There may have been a proviso that you have to release all followers before activating the mod, and you kept Marcurio as a follower while installing the mod, and it screwed up his scripts.

My advice:

1. dismiss all followers
2. in console type show playerfollowercount and verify that follower count is 0; if not, type set playerfollowercount to 0 and repeat first step to verify zero followers
3. save game, exit game
4. follow mod's instructions for uninstalling the mod
5. reload from your save without mod enabled, save again, exit game
6. reinstall mod, load last save and see what happens

Also if you are using any other follower mods, check to see that they are compatible and loading in the recommended order.

Yeah, I tried that. No luck. The Mod is no longer installed, I have saved having disabled (and deleted!) it as well as checking the follower count and it is set to 0. It is literally stuck. This should be a simple fix but doesn't appear to be. I expected there would be a complete character reset which would take the NPC/follower back to 0. As if i'd never had any contact with him.

The option to talk seems to be there... (So when the crosshair is over him, it shows "(E) Talk to Marcurio" or whatever), but when I press E, there are no options. He only responds as any regular NPC responds, with some general dialogue. Not in response to an actual question.

Surely there is something that can be done here? I've even tried a complete reinstall of the game (which included installing all the original mods that I had installed before this whole nightmare). I tried forcing it to create a new skyrim.ini file which caused it to crash so I reverted to my backup.

Basically, I am a little lost. Short of starting the whole game again (which would be an [censored] as I am level 35), I seriously don't have a clue. There must be some option to reset his player? Or to delete him so it forces the game to rebuild him from scratch.

What about previous saves? Any way to just backtrack one by one until you find one where he still works? Or is that losing too much character development?
