Ok so i want to role play a Dunmer coming from morrowind to skyrim to seek a new life and to help his mother who is ill. Though, i need to know about morrowind and what it's like during the skyrim time period. is it still all ashy like in morrowind or what?

Do people still live in morrowind? do they have snow in morrowind?

There is no snow in Morrowind, there is snow in Solesthiem, from the expansion Bloodmoon, an island northwest of Morrowind. Red Mountain exploded and I am sure that most of Morrowind is covered in ash and lava. Not sure if anyone is mentioned in the game as living there now or wanting to go back there, though a couple mentioned being homesick for Morrowind.

So, hopefully this guys mom is in Skyrim and she was not left behind in Morrowind.

Ok thanks, and sadly his mom is in Morrowind, that's why she's sick... I'll start working on it and make one big link to all the blogs/journle entries... thanks for the help though

The Bitter Coast (Seyda Neen, Hla Old, Gnarr Mok) are the best places to expect to have survived, there is a mountain range between Red Mountain and those places. So, that would be a good place for Mom to be. I think most anywhere else would have been too close to the volcano.

I don't know much about lore(or anything else for that matter), but I doubt the Dunmer are getting their 8 hours of healthy natural sleep every night, they all seem to have terrible bags under their eyes. cataclysmic volcanic eruption or not, you should still get your 8 hours. No wonder they're so grumpy.

Wouldn't the island have recovered back to it's normal level of hellish wasteland by now? And it's possible she's on the mainland, which presumably wasn't hit quite as hard.

Heh, good show there got a hearty laugh on that one.

The bartender in Riften still has family in Morrowind living on a farm there, it's mentioned as part of a quest as background and a potential alternate path to completing the quest. So there is life and people living there, we just don't know to what extent the province, let alone the island, has recovered from the eruption.
