Probably been covered, but...

What I would really like to see in Skyrim is a "reputation", for good or ill. Call it fame or infamy, reknown, whatever, just add it to the game. It wouldn't be that difficult. The game tracks crime well enough, why not deeds? Do something remarkable, earn a fame point. Do something dastardly, lose a fame point. Weight them according to magnitude (again, like crimes,) even make it different from hold to hold (yep, you guessed it, like crimes.)

Walk into Whiterun after killing your first dragon, the guards all know. Is everyone else deaf? This is my pet peeve, I guess, and it's bothered me since day one, and it still bothers me.

Bethesda: FLESH THE GAME OUT A LITTLE!

"Of course you don't. What am I thinking?"

I saved your ass from a dragon.

Gah. So annoying. Fame would be a welcome addition.

There is a reputation system, just because there isn't a number attached to it doesn't mean its not there. Haven't you ever noticed that if your character is good certain people start calling you a milk-drinker. Or if your walking around with a dead thrall, high elves will say "it's people like you who give magic a bad name, shame on you."

A lot better than New Vegas' broken reputation system, you could be a rauaging cannibal and if you kill a couple raiders, your karma is Jesus Christ.

Hahaha! That one got me. Thank you.
I would like to see the reputation system play out more than it does, but I do like that the guards comment.

Well that guy looks like a snob so if your anybody but the Jarl he would probably say something uppity anyway. As for other people giving you a heroes welcome they might be either star struck by you and hesitant to speak to someone so legendary or they fear you because you are the Dragon Born more then human with super powers.

That's not quite the same. The mages are reacting to what you're currently doing, not because you have a reputation. It's the same as when people tell me to be careful with a fire spell.

I think reputation, fame, honor, and notoriety should be included, but I don't think you should be penalized for doing "evil" things if nobody sees you do them. I've always hated people knowing I was in the DB right away before I even started doing jobs for it. If you're a highly skilled thief/assassin, nobody should treat you differently because they have no reason to suspect you're a criminal.

There should also be some sort of disguise based thing where if you commit crimes but are wearing a mask or something, the people won't know it's you.

Sort of like a muted version of the Cowl of Nocturnal? If you're masked when you say... assassinate someone, then if you're masked then they wouldn't know it's you the next time you enter the city with "regular" clothes on?

That'd be cool.

First, what you're talking about is karma, not reputation. Reputation is extremely well done in NV.

If you kill a bunch of NCR guys, they'll start to hate you, until they attack you on sight. If you help a faction that is an enemy of the NCR, your repution with the NCR drops. But you can equip NCR armor and disguise yourself so they won't attack you. But if you walk in a NCR camp with Caesar's Legion armor on, they'll start to attack you, because they'll see you as an enemy. And that works for every major factions.

In Skyrim, I can walk into a stormcloak camp with Imperial armor on, and they don't even care.

This is exactly right. With crimes, you can (if the system is working properly that day) get away with doing awful things, if there are no witnesses. But, kill a dragon in Winterhold, absorb its soul, people say, "If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I never would have believed it." Followed by... absolutely nothing. No witnesses, it didn't happen. Witnesses, you did it, for good or ill. It just feels broken to me.
