Question about Mer

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:13 pm

Hello everybody !

I'm wondering , some people said at their character's age that they are 100-200 years old , they all were from the Mer races.
I went to the UESP but found nothing.

Can anyone explain more about Mer and that aging ?

Thanks !

Mer are the elven-races. They have longer lifespans than humans (if they are not Altmers, crossing my path)

And btw:

Dunmer = Dark Elves
Altmer = High Elves
Bosmer - (The best kind) = Wood Elves
Falmer = Snow Elves

To my understanding Mer races live longer but I've only read a little on it. I know that Dunmer that procreate live less as long as those that dont f around :lol:. In middle age texts, 2nd and 3rd, that I have read, its mentioned that humans are referred to temporary compared to elves. I know Phynaster is an Altmer God that gave them the knowledge to live a hundred years longer.

All in all, I still don't have a good measurement on how long certain races live. My guess for Dunmer, Altmer, and Bosmer are 200 to 300 maybe. For some reason I think that orcs are more humanish even though they are technically mer.

I dunno, if you want more info on TES and its more, you'll have to start reading some Imperial Library stuff.

Mer mature physically around the same time as humans give or take a decade, but the aging comes to a crawl when they're fully advlt. Mer can expect to see a few centuries, with pure-blooded Altmer or nobles and mages could live for thousands.

Falmer = Snow Elves

Also
Orsimer = Orcs
Dwemer = Dwarves
Both are also a kind of elf.

If I remember correctly Orsimer only live to about 40.
Dunmer & Bosmer something like 2-300 years.
And the Altmer something like 1000 years.

I don't have the foggiest about Falmer, Maomer, or Dunmer

We know quite a lot about when elves mature. Here's from The Real Barenziah:
"How old are you, Berry? Seventeen? Well, you've a year or two yet before you're fertile, unless you're very unlucky. Elves don't have children readily with other Elves after that, even, so you'll be all right if you stick with them."

So it's several years later than humans, assuming that they hang out with other elves. As we could see, Barenziah became fertile a little earlier due to her sixual contacts with short-lived races.

Lifespan can be prolonged by magic. Powerful mages can live for hundreds, if not thousands, years.

I don't remember where I got this but here ya go lad:

On the age and lifespans of characters of different races.

Elves live around 700-1000

1. Up to 25: more or less like humans, with the exception of children bearing, which starts to be a possibility for the elves around 50+
2. 25-100: young advlt
3. 100 - 400: advlt
4. 400+: middle-aged, they lose the ability to procreate somewhere in this period, unless special circumstances apply (lifespan and capabilities prolonged for some reasons)
5. About century before natural death they become the physical equivalent of a human elder
6. Before 1000: natural death; the actual age of death depends on the individual

NOTES:
* an elf's lifespan, can be affected negatively by strong emotions: grief, a 'broken heart', loss of will to live, etc.
* of course, the above chart does not apply to mages and the likes
* elves are able to have children with humans earlier (and more often) than with other elves.

B. Human races:
All humans have a much shorter lifespawn, as compared to the elven but they also differ among themselves.

Bretons: Live longer than their human brethren because of the elven blood that runs in their veins. The oldest of them can remember Tamriel from 200 ago.
