Opinions on "Steady Hand" perk. Is it recommended to

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:45 am

I suppose I basically summed my question up in the title.

I have never taken these perks before, and was wondering if they are recommended.

I don't want the "slowed time" effect ruining my archery experience, in case it svcks, or is worthless.

Eagle Eye perk is awesome.

Totally worth it. You'll want to put a few levels into stamina, though.

Okay, thanks!

Both ranks, or just one?

I took both levels of Steady Hand. I didn't find the slow motion ruined my experience at all. I actually enjoyed shooting an arrow in slow motion to see where it hits. It was like a mini kill cam before they actually released kill cams. It was also helpful if I was needing time to think or to aim my shot at a Dragon while it was flying. I also thought it was good for role-play since I was playing a Bosmer archer.

Both. Absolutely.
None of the Archery perks are a waste except maybe Hunter's Discipline. The second level of Steady Hand turns you into the Terminator. Just remember to wait to press block until the instant before your bow is fully drawn. Otherwise you waste a ton of stamina. You'll see what I mean when you start playing around with it.

Agreed on Hunter's Discipline, it's a waste of a perk. But technically it isn't because you need it as a pre-requisite for the Ranger perk. The Archery tree is actually the one perk tree that it is good to get every single perk for.

just something to note, save before taking the perk and give it a try, some people find that they absolutely hate it, although most find it incredibly useful.

I think it's a waste of perk points, as would be eagle eye if it wasn't a prereq for power shot. Since steady hand also slows you down, the only advantage you gain is having a little more time to line up a shot (which is great for pad users). However, if you have no problems with aiming, then I'd put those 2 perk points somewhere more useful.

It doesn't slow you down as much as the enemies though.

I absolutely love Steady Hand. It gives me more time to place the shot, helps with hitting moving targets and if I face a melee enemy, gives me one or two more shots before they reach me. Also, I simply like the slowed time effect :)

First level is great. I found the second level to be more of a hindrance though, you don't need it to be that slow to get a good shot off, it actually made things worse for me.

That is actually what I was worried about.

Maybe I will just stick with one, for now.

By the way, as an archery question in general - Is there a certain number of stamina that is considered to be the "magic number" for stamina, to where you will always have enough for all of the use of archery?

I want to keep stamina as low as possible, so that I can beef up my magicka and health. I can work around carry weight, but stamina is needed for effective use of archery perks.

Suggestions on a specific number to aim for? Is 200 too low?

For stamina I aim for at least 200.
However with the wind walker perk in the light armor tree your stamina will regenerate 50% faster,so it's up to you.

The steady aim perk does svck up a lot of stamina and if you bash with your bow that takes even more.If you find yourself running out of stamina often you can make stamina regen potions if you don't mind going into the inventory during a battle.

I currently have 300 stamina, and I feel like that may have been way too much.

I want to be able to cast master level spells when I get them, without being forced to don some enchanted piece of clothing / jewelry / armor.

Yeah definitely this, perk makes it much easier to hit the dragon while in air. :goodjob: I raised it both and loved it!

I think you have more than enough stamina.
Even my archers that rely on steady aim and bashing don't really need that much stamina.
If you want to cast those high power spells also I would consider going back and takeing a little less in stamina and more in magick.
I don't know a lot about magick as my archers don't use any but I am sure that the master spells take an awefull lot of magick to cast.

Like I said, I feel like I made a mistake.

I was thinking 400 magicka, 400 health, and 200 stamina for the long haul goal, but I have no idea if this will make me happy in the end.

I do not like being forced to rely on enchantments for casting, and I want to be able to cast master level spells without buffs other than getting my skills in schools to 100 and perks halving the magicka cost.

You'll be good with 300 stamina. It isn't too much at all.

Agree. One level of SH works well for me, you have plenty of time to aim properly with that. Two levels, and your shooting animation slogs like a slug. Just don't need more than one level of it, in my opinion.
