What is happening with the stealth system!?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:43 am

Hello people:)

I was in Whiterun today, stood on top of some stairs and had a nice view of the market place.
Took aim and killed somebody. The guards runned around like crazy for some time, but after some
time they stopped. When i got down to the market place one of the guards started to shoot at me.
Wtf?? There is no way in hell that they could have seen me (fully muffled and stood in the dark)
and they even stopped searching for foes. Hmm, i am beginning to wonder if this could have something
to do with my new companion but then again they are in stealth mode when you are, at least after 1.5.

any thoughts or experiences of the same?

Just find this a tad irritating when you know that you 100% in STEALTH :drag:

Your companion reported your crime.

Ohhhh, yeah, that could be it:) Though a bit strange since she if so far away from
the guards, but i guess she reacts just like the NPC's then. Thanks again, going to try from the
same spot without her now:)

The game has always done this. This is nothing new.

Skyrim's stealth system and NPC's reactions are quite flawed in general. Often guards will attack you for crimes you did even if you have no bounty, but that's really just the tip of the iceberg. I can blow *beep* up right next to someone and they will not react. People look straight at me, in broad daylight, with maybe a feet or two to separate us, and they will not see me. I can make as much noise as I want without anyone detecting me, unless I decide to cast a spell of course. But then skyrim really isn't supposed to be a "stealth game". You got the option to some degree, but it's obvious that it was not designed for this purpose. Would be cool if the next game wanted to work more on the stealth aspects, perhaps add a lot of ideas from stealth games such as crawling, pressing yourself against walls, let the NPC be a bit more intelligent. Wouldn't mind wall climbling either. But the most important thing would be to design caves/ruins that featured more than one way of going through them. Perhaps you could crawl through dwemer pipes for example, or make your way past the enemies on an upper ledge.

Although Skyrim's Stealth/Crime system is infinitely better than Oblivion's uber-Psychic guards...

The problem was corrected quite fast. If you play the latest version, they no longer are psychic.

Bethesda hampering our psychic abilities? That's just like aiding a criminal!

I've got the original GOTY version (Xbox 360), and the GOTY Deluxe Edition (Steam), but nothing more than that. I just like how I can steal one sweetroll in Bruma, and the guards in Anvil know about it before I can even get there. lol
