NPCs seem indifferent

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:52 pm

I really like playing Skyrim, it's an awesome game. But I'm wondering if you guys are feeling like the NPCs should have more reactions towards the main character. I mean... it's the dragonborn, and there is not much people noticing it... They seem indifferent to things that my character does. *Spoilers* when you become the thieves guild master, guild members don't really act like they know it...

It feels like you are nothing more than another not so important character of Skyrim. You never really feel like your decisions are making any differences with the people around you. The NPCs personalities and dialogues sometimes, are not that interesting.
Maybe it's not important for some players and I'm glad for you! But for me it's a thing that I would have loved to see More in Skyrim, It feels too much the same as Oblivion. But other than that I enjoy playing that game a lot on my old xbox 360 with a flashing red light every now and then lol ... : \
What are your thoughts??

I agree. I hated when I was the
Spoiler
Thieves Guild Master
and they didn't even acknowledge me.

I want people to react more to your character and what they do so it feels more alive.

I too would like more reaction from everyday NPCs, but it's not like there's none at all. Enthir, for example, has unique dialogue for quests involving him. He told me that he "... Meant no direspect, Arch-Mage." when I was doing Arniel's Endeavor.

I'm pleased with NPC reactions. I did a certain quest involving an orphanage two days ago (my first time). I was astounded to hear a guard outside of Solitude make a remark about the events as I passed. It really felt cool, like my character was pulling strings behind the scenes that actually affected people in the game world.

Please, no more acknowledging that player is an uberhero. I have a lot to handwave already because of that... I don't want to play as uberhero and most of ingame quests are perfectly doable by group of, umm, semi-professionals for hire, like us :)

But I do like NPCs commenting latest events :)

Just remembered an excellent point - the people of Windhelm's reactions at the end of the Civil War. Very well done - they each have a different opinion and way of expressing it. As I say, it's not that there's no reactions like some seem to believe. It's just that they aren't always thrown in your face.

Guards know EVERYTHING in Skyrim. But the rest... I mean, one of my character went to see the jarl of the Reach the other day, for the first time. She declared an interest in buying a house in Markarth. He started out with "I don't know you", which seemed logic, but then it would be nice to be able to answer things like "I'm the Harbinger of the Companions" (who, according to the description is well respected all over Skyrim) and "I'm the Dragonborn, maybe you've heard of me?" (instead he made some insulting remarks about me being a sellsword).

This is just an example. But as you climb the Skyrim carrier ladder, it would be nice if more people recognized you, or at least if you could tell them.

No one gives a [censored] what you've done except guards and even they never update their facts. I mean, you pass a guard walking up the street and get "I'm honored, Dovahkiin." and then you pass the same guy a second later and it's: "Sneak-thief" this and "Bard" that.
