RP ideas and help on how to make them

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:29 am

This is a thread where we say what we role play as, and we suggest things that would make your role playing experience better. Improvements hcan be anything from; gear that could make you resemble the character, interesing storyline ideas etc. whatever you want. Anyways, I'll start:

1)Class:Samurai Race:Don't know yet
Summary:There are two kinds of samurai. The old-school ones who are all honourable and good two-shoes and stuff, and the other more modern ones which are less honourable and a bit more violent. My character's going to be a mix of the two, something like he lost his honour so he changed into an outlaw samurai who drinks, kills etc. Any input on this would be helpful.

2)Class:Soldier Race:Old-school orc(doesn't like people, racist etc.)
Summary: He's supposed ot be brutal. He'll use two-handed weapons, wear full set of ancient nord armor(daedric armor just literally kills the game) and so on and so forth. Again, some input would be nice.

3)Class:Super saiyan :Race Breton?(not entirely sure)
Summary: I'm just using the term "super saiyan" because I don't know what other term would be better for this character. I don't mean in literal sense, as in hair turning gold and stuff, but kind of a violent mage that buffs himself to extreme states just like in DBZ, uses charged attacks to resemble more of the anime special attacks like kamehameha and such. Input would be apreciated.

Okay, now it's your turn. You have the choice of either giving me some improements, telling me your own RP ides, or doing both at the same time. Most of all though, remember to have fun in this thread!

1)
Class: Gangrel(most likely in the hunter class due to being almost werewolf like hunters for blood)
Race: Any
RP role: A TES version of the Vampire the Masquerade vampire clan
Description: You might want to use the glitch to be both werewolf and vampire for this, as these guys are one with their inner beast(the monster that makes vampires feral in the tabletop RPG) and will get mutations after every frenzy. Since you can't do the mutations, werewolf with vampire will have to do. You will be doing tons of hiking and simply acts of self sufficiency and mountain man type stuff, so be used to being in the wilds until feeding time. Be sure to wear tough but not too heavy armor or clothing, as this vampire clan has quite an obsession with hiking boots(even going so far as to wear boot straps on their hair). The werewolf will be for the frenzy and the vampire will be for... Vampire stuff. No romantic stuff here, though. You are likely to kill those you feed on, so be careful. Magic is probably optional here.

I can't remember much as I've played that game as a kid, but shouldn't Gangrels be half-vampire, half-werewolf?

Sorry EDIT: Didn't know about the vampire/werewolf glitch.

No. That is what the other clans assume. The Gengrel hate werewolves as much as much of the Sabbat and many of the other clans. They just are very in touch with their inner monster and sort of embrace it while controlling it.

My current character is a level 20 Dunmer who has named herself Slice (birth name: Amaryis Serethi) and who grew up in the Gray Quarter of Windhelm (using an alternate start mod to begin the game there). Years of abuse from non-Elf residents have made her bitter, particularly towards Nords. Her first several levels were spent aimlessly thieving around Windhelm (to simulate her adolescence). Then she joined up with the Thieves Guild. Later, she stumbled by accident into the Dark Brotherhood.

She is currently wearing Thieves Guild armor she received when she joined that guild. Before she enters a town she removes it and puts on an ordinary dress so that no one will be suspicious. She wields a scimitar in her left hand and a recently-acquired glass sword in her right. She travels alone and is efficient and professional in everything she does.

OP: I like your Samurai idea. I might steal that one.

I've had this idea for awhile now (unimplemented so far) of making a bandit. Just a low-intelligence bandit, whose only skills involve blunt weapons, pickpocketing, sneak, and breaking into buildings/chests. He will not be involved with extensive dungeon-diving, since there's plenty of income to be found above-ground. He will either be Nord or Redguard, but other races could also be chosen. For me, though, it will have to be either of those races, and it'll have to be a male.

The bandit will make his way to Riverwood, where he will probably attempt to steal, maim, and destroy as much of the town as he can. Since there is not much of a
Spoiler
law-element present in Riverwood
, he should be able to get away with stuff, hiding out when necessary.

Eventually the bandit will find himself pursued by the law, of course. And he'll do his best not to give-in and go to jail. He will probably steal horses. And eventually, he will find some sort of a roadside camp or establishment. If anybody lives there, he will do his best to kill them and take over the place. And then, he will literally live there for awhile, waiting for NPC's to walk by. Weaker NPC's (farmers and such) will be targets, but if a group of soldiers goes by, the bandit will try his best to hide from them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've also started a scout character. This scout will only use the brown paper map (the one that comes with the game) for navigation. He will not use the 3D World Map, which I tend to use only with magic-based characters. I've used the paper map with a couple previous characters; for those who think it's useless, I'm telling you now that not only can it be used successfully for navigation, but it can also add immersion.

The Scout will not get involved with melee combat (unless he's defending himself or his horse) or dungeon-diving, and will instead ride around, assisting some of my other characters who need to go into treacherous areas. He will do a lot of hunting, too. His primary skills will be Bow, running, swimming, horsemanship, summon wolf (rp stuff), 1-handed...he will be more of a pacifist than an aggressor.

EDIT: I gotta add, neither of these character ideas would work in vanilla Oblivion. Cyrodiil's roads are too sparsely-populated for the bandit to work (I see my Skyrim bandit on a road with lots of NPC's walking by), and the Scout would eventually get bored in Cyrodiil. The lack of peaceful wildlife (other than deer) would eventually break immersion for me in this game, personally.

You've gotta give it time, man.

I often find that books for tabletop RPGs serve as a good inspiration. I'm currently playing an Arcane Archer, who uses Archery, Destruction (mostly runes), Alteration, and Enchanting. Oh, and Conjuration for the Bound Bow. No armor, no melee, no summons, no Illusion. I use Sneak minimally, but it's not perked at all.

I also have started a Redguard who is working for the Dark Brotherhood. His angle is that he's a Hammerfell loyalist/guerrilla agent who has moved to Skyrim in an effort to oppose the Thalmor. But, he is very loyal to the Empire as well - he just doesn't think it's currently headed in the right direction. I thought about having him do both the DB questline and the Imperial legion one. At one point, I had all the reasoning behind that figured out, but I can't remember it... oh well! It basically was an excuse for him to think of himself as a 'good guy' instead of just a psychopath who murders people for no reason. He will be using Light Armor, One-handed (dual wielding, probably dagger/sword) and Sneak, with a bit of Archery thrown in. Loosely based on the Shadowdancer prestige class from D&D/Pathfinder.

My next build will probably be a druid/shaman. Likely an old man, a Breton, using a Forsworn axe (no metal weapons) for melee, but relying mostly on Destruction (as a master of the natural elements), Illusion (to fear/frenzy humanoids, and calm animals), and shouts (especially Animal Allegiance, Storm Call, etc.) Alteration as well, for oakflesh and the like. He will be a kindly old man, doing all of the little jobs for the farmers, the Gildergreen quest - helpful stuff in general - but he will be a terror to behold when his wrath is awakened. He will wage a personal war against the Forsworn, since they have lost their way and are perverting the natural law.

Then I've got a sketched-out plan for an Alchemist/doctor that was inspired by some earlier posts. He will probably be a Breton as well, since they get boosts in the right skills. He'll max out Alchemy, but also use Alteration (to simulate toughening of his skin through alchemical infusions, or heightened senses via detect life), Pickpocket (to deliver his poisons surreptitiously), Conjuration (sort of a mad doctor who can reanimate the dead), and One-handed (as a former nobleman of High Rock, he was trained in the use of a sword). I will probably also need some Sneak in order to pull off the poisoning/pickpocket trick. His schtick will be to open up combat via a poison or sneak attack, kill the enemy, raise the corpse, and continue on that way, using poisons and potions liberally. I'll play him as a sort of travelling snake-oil salesman, so some Speech would also fit.

You could also go with a ranger type. That's easy to build, since everyone knows what a ranger's skills should be (my take: Archery, Light Armor, One-handed, Alchemy), but to make it a really good RP you should think of what other features rangers have. In D&D/Pathfinder, rangers have a favored enemy. At higher levels, they have more than one. You could make a ranger who hates the Falmer, for example (I do IRL!), or a ranger who is dedicated to exterminating giants, or hunts dragons, or is waging a war on bandits, or sabercats, or spiders, or.... you get the drift. Think about why your character hates that particular enemy, and then set about finding them and bringing them down.

Then there's an idea for an Argonian guerrilla fighter. He would probably be one-handed, block (no shield, just sword), light armor, archery, sneak, alchemy... something like that. Mostly because I haven't made an Argonian in Skyrim yet. He would be sort of a shady character, but I haven't figured out what quests he would do. Perhaps simply a self-interested treasure hunter.

I did play a Khajiit sellsword (or sellclaws) who used his claws for melee and only used Archery, Heavy Armor, and Speech skills. A bit of Sneak early on, but I dropped it quickly. He was awesome, actually. He wandered the land doing good deeds, making cash... he was a svcker for a pretty face.

My first MQ character was pretty much inspired by Beowulf. A Nord who used all of the combat skills, but Archery was the least of those. He did the MQ and the Companions - the Companions especially is awesome for an Old English/Old Norse/Beowulf kind of feel. This guy saw himself as a true heir of Ysgramor, and getting the assorted weapon/armor rewards for the Companions was so perfect for him.

I've still got a save that I intend to return to for my Imperial rogue. He's in the Thieves' Guild, but is more interested in being a treasure hunter - delving into dangerous ruins, sneaking past enemies, disarming traps, picking locks, and coming back with tons of loot. Whenever he heard a rumor of a profitable location, he'd check it out. For more challenging expeditions, he'd hire on some help - sort of simulating a 'party' from tabletop rpgs. Once the particular job was complete, he'd lose the follower, but hire him back if something else came up later. He was not much of a warrior, so the extra help was always needed. He did use Archery and a bit of One-handed along with Sneak, Light Armor and Lockpicking. No crafting skills.

Finally (for now), I have an idea for a doddering old Breton, an archaeologist type based on the narrator of 'The Ruins of Kemel-Ze'. He will be fascinated with ancient Nordic and Dwemer history, and will collect ancient artifacts and books. But he'll have very limited combat ability. His main skills will be Speech, One-handed (something of a swordsman in his youth, but he's gotten a bit rusty), Alteration (light and shield spells), Illusion (only for Rally spells, I think). He will basically go to a town, set up a room at the local inn, hire any promising adventurers, and then plan expeditions to local areas of interest, returning to the inn to drop off gear or buy/sell; then he'll move on to another town. Probably will live in Solitude ultimately.

Wear whole armor sets and dont put any other armor in your inventory besides necklaces and ring your going to use. Then carry only like 3 weapons One handers (Or two handers ) and a Bow.
Then dont fast travel. And finish a whole quest chain without going onto other ones. I found that made me feel like i was actually in the world and not some game.

Well, when anyone says samurai in a TES setting the first thing to come to mind is Blades armor&sword. If I was making a samurai type, that's where I'd start. Also definitely need to get the decapitation perk, so when someone bad mouths your guy, he can quickly lob off the dudes head.

I actually shall try my Gengrel idea. The glitch still works, the feeding will just have to be sorta feeding since they can't svck any blood if they are both vampire and werewolf. Oh well. Wish me luck.

That said, more RP ideas that involve my brooding Khajiit, Gutslit. This list shall be formatted by category. First up... Lifestyle!

Lifestyle RP:

RP Role: Collector
Possible Class Choices: Anything
Race: Any
Description: As a collector, you really have the liberty to collect whatever is of interest. You could be a "fad" type collector and only collect hearts during a Necromancer's Moon. You could be a hoarder who(no, sheep herder doesn't count as a hoarder.) collects anything. This is a role play that is almost too much of anything goes. Have fun with it.

RP Role: Housecarl
Possible Class Choices: Most likely warrior
Race: Any
Description: You make friends with a noble and live in their house. Watching them sleep. Watching their every move.(This is a joke rp)

Joke RPs:

RP Role: Pity Them Fools!
Possible Class Choices: Warrior
Race: If you go for full on Mr. T, Redguard. If not, Orc.
Description: You are the man who pities the fools! If you want, you could also be a preacher since Mr. T is now one in real life. If you want to just be pitying fools, though, help people and then give them a long talk. Maybe you want to make fun of that WoW ad where Mr. T was playing as something that looks like an orc. It's all fun and fool pitying here.

RP Role: Tim Curry
Possible Class Choices: Bard
Race: Nord, Breton, or Imperial
Description: You are playing as THE Tim Curry. Join the Bard's College, and show them how to make awesome out of something as dumb as Tim Curry's song number from The Worst Witch. Be as Curry as possible.

That's it for now, folks.

my current character is breton warrior. His father was a altmer thalmor agent who grew dis content with the way they order was going. He left the order but was mysteriously killed shortly after by "unkown" causes. growing up my breton discovered he was as adept at spells as many others he grew up with, but did notice he was much bigger and stronger. So he decided to learn the ways of the legionaire. i just finished the civil war questline on the legion side obviously. but now im not quite sure where i should go with him. i want to keep him, but im just not sure what to do. he doesn't know how his father died yet, but im thinking i might throw in that he finds out somehow and decides to go be apart of the companions for some reason, but im not sure......any ideas?
