Question about enchanting - why only +20% smithing with 100

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:23 pm

Hello all!

I'm a tad confused here. I'm on a PS3 system (if it matters) and have been working rather hard getting my smithing and enchanting to a 100 in order to craft and enchant som really sweet gear. The funny thing is that with the grand soul gems I can't get smithing better than +20% on the four parts able to be crafted with this feat. despite the fact that I have 100 enchanting and have specced full enchant tree except for the +25% elemental ones.

Anyone have an idea what I'm missing here? Would really apreciate it.

Regards
/Mattias

I'm gonna use enchanting potions to get the last 3% up to 28%. But first I need to figure out why I can't enchant armor/jewellry with more than 20%, with grand gems, when I've got 100 enchanting.

Do you have all the perks in the Enchant tree filled out to increase it? Also the "limit" for that enchantment may be 20, i dont know because i stick with maxing my smithing

Make fortify enchanting potions. Make fortify alchemy gear. Make new fortify enchanting potions. Make new fortify alchemy gear. Make new fortify enchanting potions, and fortify smithing potions. Make fortify smithing gear. Put on smithing gear, take smithing potion. That's all within normal game mechanics, you can get much better stuff by exploiting the fortify restoration glitch, though you may consider that 'cheating', as far as cheating goes in a single player game.

Thanks all!
I've seen a youtube video of someone with 100 ench using grand soul gems to make +25% smithing gear. The potion topped it up to 28%, which is supposed to be max. The only perks I haven't picked from the enchanting tree is the ones fortifying elemental enchantments. The lack of them can't be the reason one would think...

Hmm.. That's a good idea! But I'm not sure it explains why I can only craft +20% items, when there's also +22 and +25% gear, which i should be able to enchant since my enchanting is at 100.

You need 100 alchemy and perks to make the best stuff.

I believe it's the perk in the middle tree that bugs, the perk that adds 25% to all skill related enchantments, so instead of 20*1.25=25 you get 20. I've experienced this before, if your on pc I imagine you can remove then add the perk, it was never fixed for my character on xbox.

Yeah, I get that 100 alchemy makes your enchantment potions better, but the fella in the video used a grand soul gem to enchant his clothing with +25% smithing, and THEN drank a potion raising it the last 3%.

Crap, that might explain it... Can anyone verify this? One would think this is something that should have been fixed by now if that's the case...

No, you drink the potion first, then enchant, but with good alchemy you can make better fortify enchanting potions. these potions don't last long, and enchanting is in real time. So as not to waste the potion, go into the enchanting menu, work out what you want, come out of the menu, drink the potion, then enchant for real. It is timed, and only pauses on the name item menu, so you have to be quick, and will probably only have time to enchant one item per potion, unlike smithing where 30 seconds will let you improve all you have the materials for.

It's only happened to one of my characters, but not all used enchanting. My current one does, he doesn't have this problem.

From the Wiki :

Enchanting bonuses from perks may not always function properly e.g. only allowing enchantments of 22% in alchemy and/or blacksmithing as opposed to 25%
PS3 solution was to delete Skyrim Game Data and Game Update and reinstall again from fresh.

Delete skyrim game data? That sounds so suicidal somehow. " I CAN'T GET MY ENCHANTMENTS TO WORK DAMMIT IM GOING TO DELETE MYSELF"

Ah, yes, ofc. My bad, I know what you mean.
You know what, re-installing the game actually helped. Fantastic! Thanks!

Game Data =http://forums.bethsoft.com/= Save Data
Game data is the installed file on your console. Save data is the data for your character. You can delete one without affecting the other.
