it's absurd how powerfull it is. the master spells are 250 ft. and don't need line of sight, so u can walk into a dungeon sneak to a central location and turn the whole place to hell. calming (or pacify / harmony) is an easy throat slit. this is all on top of sneaking, and being able to go invisible to do it again.
i didn't take shadow warrior because i thought it would be too abusive, having used it on my first thief. the only challenge is giants, mammoths, and dragons are immune (dragons can see through invisibility too) to illusion spells, but can still be sneak attacked, so...
having this playthrough be the one where i avoid dragonsreach llke a plague to not get the main quest, my character has become god. it's way easier than my destruction mage who got killed over and over. the games gotten boring about 35 hours in. illusion definetly isn't gimped on master the way i felt destruction was.
i'm training archery for dragons to do the main quest just for a challenge, alduins going to take alot of arrows though...
not really sure what the point of this post is aside from pointing out what everyone probly already knows, but it's typed out so im posting it.
