It it possible to get 120, maybe even more. I set my video card to limit my FPS to 60.

EDIT : Until I adjusted the parameters, I was getting 2500 on The Witcher.

Most videos are taken with it set to 30. That is just to get a better video. Actual gameplay is twice that and more.

EDIT : I don't know about that "being locked at 30". That is obviously a load of bull melarky.

My current system pegs that game at 60 FPS with a number of HD mods installed and when I turn off vSync I am running near 90.

IIUC There is no real advantage to it being set higher than 60.

EDIT : There is still stutter and micro stutter, no matter the FPS.

In addition, you'll get gameplay computation inaccuracies if you let your FPS sore to some absurd number like ~500hz, and the screen will tear if the FPS goes any higher than your monitor's refresh rate.

So if your refresh rate is 70hz, you should actually lock the game at 70 FPS to get the best picture.

I get close to constant 60 at almost every situation despite having an aging system (C2Q 4x 2.66 GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, GTS 450). High settings apart from shadows, those are the real framerate killer.

Gotta love console ports :P

Thank you. "tearing" was what I trying to recall. Recall being something I am rather challenged at.

EDIT : Although, I get an ALMOST constant 60. There are areas that will take that down to 40 an even 35. Some mods can take this down even further at those areas.

I tend to stay away from those mods, or ANY mod that hits the performance for more than 1 or 2 FPS.

I actually use a Fps limiter in order not to have the framerate jumping from the mid 20's (especially when the PC is streaming data from the disk) to 50-60

Guys, why do you need anything overf 30?According to members of the Battlefield community, it's impossible to notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps! Might as well stick with 30!

As of right now, I think my FPS is 1 or 2 for Skyrim. I really need to fix that, I can't even do anything in Helgen! So unbearable!

I wouldn't say it's impossible to notice a difference between 30 and 60. I myself, can not see a difference when I lock FPS to 60 or 30, I lock it to 60 just cos I can.

I think it depends on the individual, some people can notice, some can't. Same with lights, some people can see them flicker (my mum can see lights flicker), while others cannot.

Go with what feels best for you, noone else can tell you that you're wrong when it all comes from your own perception of the world around you.If it feels right, it most probably is.

Xbox360 locked at 30fps = less demanding for the system

Videos locked at 30fps = specific video format protocol

PC locked at 30fps = have a cake

But Skyrim has an inbuilt vertical sync(sort of). That is actually a good thing as it can improve the video quality.

Also, Skyrim is using a not-so-optimized engine which links framerate to game data treatment. So having a framerate that's too high(or low) is not such a good thing.

If you have a powerful machine like you said you should be able to maintain a stable 60fps for Skyrim.

My framerates hardly ever drop below 58. Walked throughout Markarth, 60FPS steady. Settings: Ultra, Reflect sky off (don't like the effect), 2xAA overridden by CCC. Xfire disabled.
