Infinite shoutsno recharge meter

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:34 pm

I don't know if this has been discovered but i was messing around with the fortify restoration glitch in an attempt to make a norse demigod and something unexpected happened. I was wearing an amulet of talos that i took off a certain beheaded guy which is marked as a quest item so cant be removed, when i was creating a fortify restoration potion then drinking it and repeating to boost my potion strengths (while wearing alchemy gear). I dont know exactly what i did but i remember unequipping and equipping the talos amulet during the process and after i was done and the potion effect wore off, i had the talos amulet on with the normal 20% shout reduction displayed...the strange thing is that when i shouted, no recharge meter appeared and i could shout repeatedly, be it fus ro dah or storm call. Infinite whirlwind makes foot travelling a breeze...literally :P

If anyone attempts to replicate, please share if its a new exploit that works for everyone or just a lucky fluke for me

I di d the resto glitch, and can't remember what I did during it, but I had bows that were doing 1000+ damage. I thought there was a mistake in the other direction, as when I looked at it, it only displayed three digits, so was showing something like 112. But them I saw on the bottom of the screen and had a wtf moment.

It was no fun really.... I finally wound up taking off and putting on all my gear and voila - back to normal. I believe that what you saw is what indeed happens.

This is quite fun actually, on the Pc there's a command for you to edit the time it takes to recover. I find putting it at 50% results in me actually using my shouts as I can use different ones in the time it takes to clear a dungeon.

But yes it is the restoration glitch as it increases the items effects that you're wearing, yours with the talos amulet may have stayed due to it being a quest item somehow.

I've been using this exploit for a while now. It's the only way to make Shouting actually viable as a form of combat rather than a special attack move you get to use once every few battles. Summoning a thunderstorm when assaulting a bandit fort, followed by using whirlwind sprint to get behind an archer and then using unrelenting force to throw them off the ledge is great fun.

This has been discussed in detail, in the Cheats/Hints/Spoiler forum.

The thing is, it is not supposed to be a viable form of combat on its own. It is supposed to be a "special attack move" that you use in a dire situation, or to cripple your enemy in the beginning of the fight. Shouts takes a support role in Skyrim. The only thing i could see implemented is that shouts would be divided into three groups, with separate recharge timers. Group 1 are damaging shouts (unrelenting force, ice form, fire breath), Group 2 are supporting shouts (become eternal, kynes peace, whirlwind sprint) and group 3 are "mega shouts" (call dragon, stormcall).

The useful non combat shouts take 10 years to recharge.

^Agreed. I run a mod that adds another "Time between shouts reduced by 20%" item to the game, and with a blessing of Talos added, I feel like I can actually use the shouts as a viable means of combat. I'm planning on making my next character not learn any other magic or use any other weapons - just survive using shouts.

(As an added note, I doubled the damage done by a full Fire Breath and Frost Breath shout so that I had an actual means of attack. The vanilla variants are just pathetic in their damage output.)

Shouts were meant to supplement your typical means of combat, whether you were getting up close and personal with a blade or hanging back with a bow or magic; but I've honestly never had so much fun with the game as when I can call down a thunderstorm and then freeze my foes in a block of ice for the fury of the skies - without having time to run off and get a pizza between those two events.

As I said above there's a console command that allows you to change shout recovery time so there's no need for mods. It's been a while since my pc has all but that ability to go on the internet but it's something along the lines of 'player.forceav shoutrecoverymult 0' Will allow infinite shouts, althought I'm sure replacing it with .5 allows for half recovery.

From a lore perspective, it seems that it should be viable as a form of combat on its own. Jurgen Windcaller swallowed the Shouts of his fellow Tongues for three days and nights, and I hope that was more exciting than waiting five hours for his opponents to recharge their Shouts again.

Our characters cant do that because of how balance issues, no doubt. Although its possible that since our chars is new to the voice, they might become more powerful as time goes on...
