Idea: Restore Skyrim!

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:48 am

After you have finished the main quest and the civil war, some parts of Skyrim stands in ruins. Helgen is completely destroyed, some houses in Whiterun are in ruins, and so on. Some areas have been destroyed before the game starts, like Winterhold.

So what if we could support the holds in restoring what has been destroyed and help Skyrim return to it's former glory, and maybe even making some cities larger (since some of the hold capitals barely deserve the title "city"). For example, we could maybe support Dawnstar with money in order to build more building and maybe even build a city wall.

By giving money to a steward, you could do an investment of rebuilding something that has been destroyed. Since it appears that many people have more than 100 000 gold (not me, I'm broke), it would be a nice way to spend some money.

These are the main things I can see that could be restored/improved:

1. Rebuilding Winterhold. Considering that it's almost completely destroyed, and the only real reason anybody would spend any time there is because of the college. Doing some reparations could really make the place a lot more interesting.

2. Rebuilding what has been destroyed in the war. Whiterun take some heavy damage after the siege and could use some renovations.

3. Making the less big holds larger. Maybe if they where bigger and had more inhabitants the small hold capitals would be more...interesting.

4. Rebuild Helgen

(the list may be updated later)

What do you think?

I wish. It was dumb enough that in Oblivion the fires in Kvatch burned for the rest of the game. MONTHS or even YEARS later in game the city was still destroyed on FIRE.

I don't understand why people have a problem with Helgen. The fires do go out eventually. Most of the villagers are dead and people in the middle ages never moved around that much. I doubt it is very different in Tamriel. People don't want to move back because they have no reason to.

Hmm but i think its better in Skyrim in that when i returned to Helgen, i found that bandits had actually used that place as a base :D which was quite realistic. though on topic: is this a mod idea or something?

He's talking about Kvatch... They did Helgen just fine.. it would be a nice extra if they'd allow you to rebuild it, but it actually makes sense with what they did now to it..

I honestly wish that you could become Emperor/Empress and command your armies to fight againist the thalmor. Manage your economy train troops. not a full on strategy game just do what Fable 3 said it would do. Maybe put it in the next TES game?

Maybe a quest to clear out the bandits would be okay, but as for rebuilding it? No. No one alive lived there, except for that kid, so no one would have any reason to go back. Adding to currently existing cities doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Maybe new settlers could move there?

I actually like this idea. And i would love to be the Jarl of the city/hold. Also have some sort of defense like game where every now and then bandits would try to raid the town until you built a standing army (Guards).

I like that some cities are permanently damaged from the Civil War, this adds a sense of realism. Many countries have ruined cities and such for decades after a civil war. I'd like to see Helgen rebuilt though I don't really see it adding much to the game overall, I personally feel there are other things the devs could be spending their time on.

Becoming a Jarl would be cool though.

Jarl of Helgen, I like it. Hopefully it would have a cool banner though and not a lame one. Maybe one with a dragon's head on it to represent the old town and it's inhabitants.

Becoming Emperor is stupid.. You can't have the lore recording a nameless Emperor as well as an Emperor whose appearance and gender couldn't be remembered..

(I would assume it would have a Dragons Head to show how it rose from the ashes of Alduin. Its colors would be black and red Black for Alduin and Red for the blood that was shed in the attack. Just as Falkreath's shops are named after death, Helgens new shops & inns would be named after Dragons, and Alduin.)

I would really like the cities to be repaired. It gets on my nerves. A renewal of Winterhold would be amazing. It would have been the biggest city. It svcks that it got destroyed.
