Everyone I know says they would play Skyrim more often if it

People apparently forget that these kinds of ideas should be "optional" meaning you can play Co-op "if you want to". Its in no way going to hurt the single-player experience.

Except there's a part that ISN'T optional.

The fact that developing and implementing multiplayer/co-op takes resources away from the single player experience. Companies only get a limited budget, a specific number of people and a limited time with which to make a game. Multiplayer development takes a portion of those resources.

Reusing the COD example. The single player experience has got shorter and less fulfilling with each incarnation as more focus is shifted onto the mp side of things. Hasn't hurt sales or the player base, but the games have received some negativity for the impacted single player experience.

That's the sort of thing Bethesda don't want. Todd Howard even said in an interview that they could never find a way to implement mp or co-op without negatively impacting the single player experience and instead, left their focus on making sure the game was enjoyable for a single player.

I love the ES because I don't have to interact with other human beings to enjoy it and it's made for people playing alone.

The day Bethesda diverts some resource to multi player, that's the day I'll quit buying ES games.

This.

Well, you obviously don't know me :)

I mean, the story of the game's supposed to be centred around you; imagine having two dovahkiins, thats just weird. And there's already TES online or whatever, why do you want co-op? Sure it may seem like fun to have a few people go dungeoning with you together, but majority of the game isnt meant for multiplayer.

And yea, the moment bethesda is making both co-op and the TES series, im sure they're going to either pay much less attention to TES or just forget it entirely.

Well there isn't much replay value as it is, so it wouldn't hurt.

I think the majority of players would play Skyrim more often if it had co-op.

Based on the people on this site, this statement is not true. There have been polls about this subject. And more people don't want it. And the numbers aren't even close.

The idea of co op seems nice, but in reality it would tear apart what Elder Scrolls is, physically and moraly.
Plus, i dont have any friends to play with anyway..... *cries in corner*

We have an http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1366657-non-mmo-tes-multiplayerco-op-thread/ for multiplayer discussion, let's move this conversation over there. (Please read the opening post first as it contains important ground rules.)
