Dawnguard will be 30 days "late" on PC right?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 8:34 am

Due to some legal garble, the PC users will have to wait 30 days for it, correct?

I noticed something in the description of the video

Release: Summer 2012
Genre: RPG
Platform: PS3/X360
Publisher: Bethesda

Anyone notice something?

Platform: PS3/X360

This is because of the 30 day wait, correct?

Correct. An artificial delay that is part of the "Extend" portion of the "Embrace, Extend, Exterminate" strategy Microsoft likes to use to eliminate competition.

Actually, it is coming out 30 days ahead on X Box 360, but both PC and Playstation 3 have the delayed version, not just PC. This deal is for the first two DLCS.

I wish Microsoft would not treat it's Windows gamers as redheaded step children. Ah well.

First two... See? Another case in point, it's getting worse.

Next game, a third or maybe even *ALL* of the DLCs will have artificial delays.

And then the game after that, the Exterminate happens, and they pull off a "Make DLCs permanently exclusive or we deny you publishing rights on the XBox" bullying.

I just hope that when that happens, they have the courage to cry foul and bring unwanted FTC attention on Microsoft. Again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace_extend_extinguish on a Wikipedia page that insists on using the whitewashed version of this anticompetetive tactic's name.

I guess you are afraid that the dlc wouldn't be available to pc users but can you imagine Bethesda refusing to sell something to the vastest part of its gamers? The millions they would not earn? :)

Yeah, I do feel that sometimes. It is weird, because every so often, Microsoft will come out and reiterate their support for PC as a gaming platform. It makes sense for them to do so, since gaming support is one of the popular reasons for choosing Windows when people have a choice, and gamers are one of the demographics that spends a lot of money on hardware and software. But it does strike me as odd that they don't seek to promote Windows gaming when agreements like this are in play.

Actually I believe Windows 8 is supposed to feature some sort of XBLA and/or XBox Live Marketplace integration. Make of that what you will in regards to things getting better or worse. (I say "worse" from an anti-monopoly standpoint, but then I'm already planning to avoid Win 8 like the plague, so.)

I will suspend judgment as to better or worse, but it certainly makes things more confusing to me. If they are pushing that kind of integration as their future strategy, then why not try to make Windows gamers feel like they are part of the family in the present?

If Bethesda gave us the power to actually edit every single thing in the game... their would be no need for PC dlc... spears and crossbows would be modded in by now.. horse combat... a week after creation kit release...

That doesn't mean we don't want Dawnguard as soon as any other console user. Besides, the modding community has been pretty much stalled until the 1.6 beta patch, due to the navmesh bug. Meaning that there's only a couple of good quest mods.

Tell us about it, Epic was going to release all the gun camos for Gow3 for free until M$ got in and said "Make each one 5 dollars and while you're at it beat everyone over the head with a baseball bat."

true but you can still do alot within the mechanics on the pc. You can change your size, armor, weapons, new appearance options, build your own place anywhere, tame wild animals as pets, add new spells, shouts...the list goes on and on and the limits are few that you can't do

who cares about horse mount combat when you can mod saber cat mounts? theres no other mounted warrior to fight on horseback anyway

I would be busy adding my own stuff to skyrim instead of waiting for beth to add stuff and charge me for it. Killing the snow prince with crossbows won't be that epic...give me the CK and mods over crossbows any day :P

Modders could mod in horse combatants... I agree on the CK over cross bows.. but it gets kinda bland since most mods seem like they come from oblivion.. and before horse combat or different mounts.. i would like improved mount movement for pc... its horrendous for Keyboard and Mouse control...

I'm fine with waiting the 30 days (PS3). Let the XBOX players get all the bugs ironed out for us!

A sad reflection of the fact that a lot of recent converts to gaming are utterly flummoxed by the fact that a gaming PC can potentially floor anything the current generation consoles can manage. "You can get skyrim for PC? Why would you do that?" thats an IRL quote from work. I think they adopted the approach that those in the know will know, but the 'casuals' need it slapped in their face; 'HEY, ITS ON *YOUR* PLATFORM! BUY IT, BUY IT NOW!'

btw just to head off any potential overly touchy replies, I'm a console gamer (xbox ) , and I dont think consoles have held the industry back. But thats another argument for another thread.

This thread is has no direction.

We have known about the 30 day DLC Window for the 360 platform since before the release of Skyrim. However, this thread is getting platform war comments and other off topic comments. Time for it to be closed.
