Infinite Magicka Glitch - "Out of Balance" Quest fro

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:17 pm

I did a quest for the Drevis Neloren at the College of Winterhold involving using a pair of gloves to cleanse the focal points of some magic wells in the College.

I completed the quest and returned the gloves but now my magicka is stuck at infinity.

Any way to use console command to get out of this? I did this same quest during a previous playthrough and didn't experience the problem.

I have the Unofficial Skyrim Patch installed, as well as a few other mods which affect spells.

Its temporary, randomly occuring and probably not even a glitch.

I've waited for several hours; however, it's not going away.

It's going to go away. Don't worry. Using sleep or wait does not move the timer for this effect. You have to walk it off. Play for 2 hours, clear some dungeons.

It does go away, but not before you can use Muffle and Detect Life to get ridiculously high levels in Illuson or Alteration. A large Magicka Pool gained by exploiting the timer does not hurt a Mage like Spamming Iron Daggers weakens a Warrior or a non Illusion using Thief.
This quest also reccurs, so the exploit could be repeated over and over on one character.
The exploit does not last long enough to travel to Mzulft where it would be useful for a low level character for defense from Chaurii.

Thanks very much for your help on this, guys.

I suppose I'm going to stand here next to my campfire so I don't die of hypothermia (I have Frostfall installed).

I'd rather not engage in too much combat until it wears off, as it is a bit boring, like playing on total god mode.

Anyone know of any console command I can try to get out of this?

I tried running Skyrim in the background on windowed mode, but it doesn't work as the game pauses if you switch to a different window.

How about doing some non-combat activity in skyrim for a while? Like Thieves Guild missions. Or maybe some fetch and delivery missions. Or Agent of Mara mission, or something similar. Or maybe do some easy missions which you know you will clear out easily anyway. You spent 3 days trying not to be OP for 2 hours?

Yes, I've been playing for days stuck with this annoying glitch. I tried to avoid combat, but I don't fast travel and I have some mods like ASIS, Radiance, Real Wildlife and Occupy Skyrim that result in increased encounters along the roads. As a result, I've gone up a few levels very quickly without wanting to. I played for hours and waited around but when I keep checking the Active Effects, it still says 2 hours left.

I believe it's related to my timescale. I play at a slower timescale than vanilla, and it took quite a while to get all the settings for Dynamic Injuries, Frostfall and Imp's More Complex Needs to have all the rates perfectly adjusted for my timescale.

Finally, after several days playing with the glitch and standing around campfires, it dropped from "2 hours left" to "1 hour left," and I noticed that it was actually dissipating, very slowly. Then I figured out that if I fast travel to the other end of the map, it would go down from, say "50 minutes left" to "45 minutes left."

So in the future if anyone is stuck with this problem, the solution is to fast travel many times. By fast traveling back and forth across the map about 8 times, I was able to make the glitch effect go away.

(Incidentally, the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Out_of_Balance using the showracemenu console command, but that did not fix the problem in my case.)

I'm guessing it was the timescale adjustment that got you. The duration is in real hours not game hours but if you play at a slower time scale the duration of all effects would be longer. Really you can just wait for 24 hours a couple times and it should get rid of it.

Anyway, I did this and didn't even notice what happened to me.... I must have been cooking up potions for a few hours or something.
