Playing different characters?

How do you all play different characters? I mean how do you keep all of the save games straight?
I assume that all of my saves are in the same folder regardless of what race I play.

Each character of mine only has one save, which when you highlight in the list it should show name, race and level details.

I then have 5 running saves that continue to be used which ever character I am playing, and i reg delete these when I finish playing for an evening and just keep the most recent as the new Character Save

This might sound dumb, but when I make my final save of the day or play period, I save it showing my characters face. That way I don't delete that save in error. Sometimes I evn save the last save a couple of times. That way when I go in to load one, I can see what character it is. It's not easy the way they have it set up. Other games give you separate save files for separate characters. I really think this is something they should work on.

I only have 2 characters (approx 8 files each) and on PS3 each file bears the character's name.

Same on the x-box. 3 different characters, 2 saves each. The name and race are important when selecting the save to overwrite and it is clearly displayed on each file when that file has been highlited.

Though, I guess this could be bothersome if you play the same race and similar styles for multiple characters. Each of mine is very different from the others.

I keep different save folders for each character. I rename them with the character's name (Nariene Saves, Amaryis Saves, ect). When I want to play a certain character I remove the name before Saves and the game only recognizes that folder.

I save my game with my characters in different locations from eachother and position the camera to show their face.

Otherwise I would accidently save over one... which I fear doing a lot.

I really wish there were save folders for each character. What I generally do is as follows:

* Two rolling saves for each character (i.e. overwrite the old of the two saves every time I make a new save file)
* Always keep those two together for optimal navigation -- even if I just play for 5 minutes, I make sure to save twice before I exit, so that character's two saves are back-to-back.
* Try to get a close up 3rd person view of my character's face before saving. This way, the save file preview image will show me exactly which character I'm loading, and I don't need to reading the names, races, levels, etc. I tend to save a lot though, so I usually just try to do this for my final save before quitting.
* Prune old/unused characters regularly. I tend to start a lot of projects that never come to fruition, and they add up over time. So rather than having a save folder looking like this:

LVL 81 Nord
Autosave
Autosave
LVL 81 Nord
Autosave
LVL 4 Khajiit
LVL 4 Khajiit
LVL 45 Dunmer
LVL 45 Dunmer
LVL 11 Altmer
LVL 11 Altmer
LVL 31 Redguard
LVL 31 Redguard
LVL 8 Breton
LVL 8 Breton
LVL 13 Argonian
LVL 13 Argonian
LVL 24 Orc
LVL 24 Orc
LVL 6 Nord
LVL 6 Nord
LVL 3 Bosmer
LVL 3 Bosmer
LVL 17 Imperial
LVL 17 Imperial
LVL 1 Prisoner

I just trim away old/unused characters so it looks like this:

LVL 81 Nord
Autosave
Autosave
LVL 81 Nord
Autosave
LVL 45 Dunmer
LVL 45 Dunmer
LVL 31 Redguard
LVL 31 Redguard
LVL 24 Orc
LVL 24 Orc
LVL 1 Prisoner

I'm on Xbox 360, so I really don't have many options to streamline that process/interface. I think i do alright though with what I have. I've played for hundreds of hours, and never lost a save file, so I guess I must be doing something right.

Not dumb at all. I do the same thing. I use 3 saves for character, I use 2 of those when I'm out questing/exploring etc, and I use the 3rd one in my home in Riften, facing my character, for when I'm finished for awhile.

Wifey has a character as well, and is starting to get in the habit of it.
