When I made an assassin I used argonians although dark elf would probably be a good choice too, also mine never slept.

Mine sleeps about 6 hours a day...bedtime starts at about 6am since she likes to work during the night. Cheese or fruit and a glass of wine for breakfast every day.

She's a Redguard...and was the secret royal assassin of Torygg before he was assassinated.
She is was captured while trying to kill Ulric.

There is much more to her story...but it's too long to write here.

Khajiit make the best assassins IMO, their night vision is perfect for killing in the dark of night. :D I have a super badass Khajiit thief/assassin.

Mine is an imperial (you can really make anything out of any race, but perkwise argonians, kahjit, and dunmer are the best) he is on the road a lot so his sleep schedule depends on if he is home on the road or killing, so at home and on the road he has a regular sleep schedule of turning in around sunset, having a few drinks and some food, then sleeping from about ten to 7 or 8. if he is killing then he spends most of the time stalking the targets and only sleeps the day or night before he makes the kill. In cities just act like a normal patron sneak around, make your kill then just walk on out, and you'll be long gone before anyone even suspects you.

I have a woodelf archer, there is nothing in skyrim quite like a slow motion arrow to the knee.

I do a lot of the same things as others here with my dark elf assassin, Evil Dan. But I will add that when I'm in towns I wear regular clothes or monk robes to blend in. It feels funny to wear the DB gear at the market.

My Imperial assassin, Serenya was the protege of my Dunmer assassin in Oblivion and is now in Skyrim, looking for her old master.

On the matter of race, pick any which feel right for your character. There is no right or wrong race to choose. On the matter of skills, sneak is recommended (obviously) and the right branch of the perk tree is perfect for an assassin. Archery is also a good method of attack. Depending on how you see things, you may want to throw some magic into the mix.
