PC does not deserveneed the DLC

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 3:01 am

This may sound dumb but I seriously see no place for the Dawnguard content on PC Skyrim since it's just an "official Mod". Most of the stuff was shown in the game jam video and this was a skyrim mod done by developers. The DG content will eventually show up in some free modifcations rendering the official DLC nearly useless.

You're lucky that this community is full of reasonable people (for the most part), because otherwise you'd be swimming in a pool of hate right now. Maybe we just need to wait...

What point are you trying to get at? That PC doesn't need official dlc because it has mods? If that's your point just look at SI. What OB mods were as good as that?

On a certain level agree but i also think that PC does deserve it as "official mod" or not Bethesda put quite a bit of time and effort into making a DLC for everyone to enjoy with what i hopes going to be a great storyline so i think its a welcome addition to every console and can see many PC users paying for this and spending hours on it and getting there moneys worth and as always there's gonna be the few that download it for free but thats how PC gaming has been for years and will continue to remain that way.

Be that as it may, as a business the question that Bethesda are interested in is: are there enough people on PC willing to buy the DLC to make a profit? And the answer is: yes.

Great. Let Bethesda know that they don't need to release Dawnguard on PC, that way it generates less revenue for them-

Wait. What was the whole point of this thread? If people feel that the DLC isn't worth their money because of what mods provide, then they don't need to purchase the DLC.

I'm just curious what does this DLC set apart from mere mods? Just the story writing? After so much hate regarding Skyrims writing and story, not many will miss that. I would expect a DLC delivering completly new coding no vanilla mod could provide, like completly new melee mechanics etc.

It's the DLC PCs deserve. But not the one it needs right now. So, we'll play it, because we can mod it. Because it's not our hero. It's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dawnguard.

I personally think that this thread is flame-bait... I don't see the mods ending this thread's life in a pleasant way.

So just because some PC players like to mod the game they should all miss out on officially released expansions? I hate doing mods myself, and even when I play the PC versions usually do not use mods. Maybe there are a few lazy ones like me who would just like to have something new conveniently all packaged up and hopefully work as expected. DLC is optional but everyone should get the option.

And I do not mind supporting a developer who makes a game I like so much.

So the PC does not deserve official DLC because of user created mods?
You know the community makes the mods and not Bethesda right.
I believe all platforms should be treated the same by Bethesda one is not better on that front.
You are also aware this is a game series yes its a series that began on PC with The Elder Scrolls Arena.
By your argument consoles should not deserve this series because it began on PC.

I play on the 360 for now because its the only thing I have to play Skyrim on for now so I am not blindly defending the PC version I just don't think one thing should be treated any better or worse by Bethesda regarding their product.

System envy is a terrible thing;).

Sorry but it's just a bit of a chuckle for me after hearing so many console gamers lecturing me on why I'm such an old fogey for playing on PC;).

Despite the much-maligned storytelling and quest design for Skyrim, the game does have a few gems - Bethesda is capable of some good stuff. Hopefully they'll prove it with this new DLC. That said, the DLC does add plenty of new mechanics - crossbows, mounted combat, and more - which can be built upon by the modding community.

Then its a good thing that buying or not buying the dlc is completely voluntary. No one is forced to do it. People who want to wait for player made content can, and others who want to use official-will-work-with-your-game content made by the devs can get the official dlc.

I don't see the point in starting a platform war.
