This is where you usually look to the modding community for support. However, I am finding a saddening lack of more realistic or sensible armor and an abundance of skimpy and impractical armors. Which is fine, if you want to play as a warlock wearing a bikini you should be allowed to. If you want to be a warrior wearing ten tons of armor, go for it, more power to you. I want to play in a world where the armor makes sense to me and I am finding a general lack of this.
My plan when I originally set out looking for realistic armor sets was to eventually altogether replace the vanilla armors with these sets for a more realistic looking game. Leaving in some of the more high fantasy armors (Dragonbone, Daedra) to accentuate the true fantasy of the characters that would wear that... Daedra don't look very crazy or intimidating in a land where everyone's armor is as spiky and over-the-top. Now imagine everyone around you is wearing a more sensible piece of armor and out comes the Daedra lord weilding a giant 2h with his spiky demonic looking armor. Holy crap!
Another problem with the lack in diversity in the choices for realistic armor leaves it looking just as unrealistic. When everyone is wearing the same 7 sets of armor it looks like they are copy and pasted into the world. I'd love to see a multitude of armors being worn around. With obvious exceptions being city guard and imperials as they have uniforms. It would add more diversity and characteristics to the game. I already have the guard diversity mod, so no two guards from different towns look the same which is also nice.
What I am basically getting at I think (I am ranting a bit at this point) is: What if we had a multitude of more realistic armors in Skyrim. Instead of fighting a bandit covered with two strips of leather, you have a bandit covered in a mix of mail, leather, studded, and some plate. Like he would be were he really fighting in a Northern realm.
So basically, I am looking for more realistic armor mods for Skyrim. I've spent hours looking through Skyrim nexus/Steam workshop and have come up with:
- Witcher 2 armors
- Hedge Knight
- Vanguard
- Vagabond
- Redguard Knight armor
- The other armors designed by that wonderful man.
TLDR; I want more realistic armor. Besides the obvious are there some that I have passed over which I sure there are because I doubt there are only about 10 armors out of 1,500 that fit my needs.
P.S: If there is a modder out there who would be willing to team up for this project, I'd be willing to offer as much help as I can. I can't offer much because the most I can do is conceptual art. I just have never dabbled in making mod skins so I am quite useless at that front. I doubt even conceptual art would even help that much. I guess that is the equivalent to being a storyline designer looking to start a mod team so I understand pretty well that what I am asking is a bit much. Just an idea, worth throwing it out there, the worst that can happen is that everyone tells me to screw myself and then mails me anthrax, which kills me.
Edit: I don't plan on stealing any of those armor kits and putting them in some sort of mod. I can see how it could be construed that way, but those are just the mods I currently have installed on my computer.
