Where is Erik?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:23 pm

So I dismissed Erik the Slayer and sent him home quite a while ago. I've been to Rorikstead twice since then, and he's not there. :( Can hirelings die on their way home, can he be somewhere else, or has the game simply removed him for unknown reasons?

(This latest time in Rorikstead was a bit bizarr, btw. First, I arrived just in time to spot Alduin circling the dragon mound on the hilltop. While I hurried there, a thief stopped me (I get thieves ALL THE TIME, this was the second in the same in-game day). After fighting her, I went up the hill, saw Alduin resurrect the dragon, then fought it and killed it in the middle of Rorikstead. After that, I went to the Inn, hoping to find Erik, but instead a met one of those random idiots that call you milkdrinker and then tries to kill you. So for the moment Frostfruit Inn contains a headless, unnamed Nord woman who was stupid enough to challenge another Nord woman who just killed a dragon right outside. Guess the people of Rorikstead just got something to talk about the next few weeks or so :P)

Yes, Erik can die, or maybe he's still on the road somewhere: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Erik_the_Slayer

I dismissed him once and he headed home. A few in-game days later I found him at random fighting two giants in the Rift:p a brave fellow, that guy...

I've had Erik go missing too. I haven't checked the Hall of the Dead yet. Kind of afraid to -- I really like Erik. It is possible for them to get killed if they're still in the same cell as you and they run into something nasty. I had that happen to Uthgerd, and almost to Lydia. Now I take them home first before dismissing them.

The Hall of the Dead - the one in Whiterun, then?

(hmm. And suddenly he became Schr?dinger's Cat. As long as I don't check the Hall of the Dead he can be both alive or dead. I can pretend he's out on a job somewhere as long as I don't know...)

Well, if you're on PC you can use player.moveto to locate him. If he's dead you'll know soon enough.

I haven't seen him since I dismissed him in front of Windhelm after coming home from the wedding. I haven't seen Argis since I left the Temple in Riften. I'm in Falkreath right now, and was heading to Markarth anyway... maybe I'd better stop in at Rorikstead just to check. I really like Erik too and would hate it if something happened to him.

It would be cool, though, if once you got him his "adventurer" status he actually went out adventuring without you sometimes. He's someone I'd love to run into like that as a random encounter, like finding some of the Companions out and about taking care of business.

Erik has a bizarre tendency to go walkabout when dismissed...my character walks with him to Rorikstead and then dismisses him, those few times I have dismissed him, for that reason. It's either that or try to invent a GPS microchip. :P Check near Gjulkar's Monument (sometimes he goes there; no idea why) or use the player.moveto command to try to teleport to him. There's a chance he died on the way home, but given his tendency to wander off after something shiny, he's probably just wound up someplace odd.

I've lost Marcurio, Lydia and that one chick in The Drunken Hunt. Plus ive lost Shadowmere. Idk what happened to them now you see them and now you don't. I can't rehire anybody either I try and they say I've already got someone with me. So you might have lost him (just saying)

I'm on PS3, unfortunately. Funny thing, we were in Windhelm when I dismissed him, too. Maybe there is something there?

Random encounters with hirelings would be cool. I was a little surprised when I ran into Ria and Vilkas the other day, thought you couldn't do that until you've started Companions questline, which I haven't done on that character yet. (And I realised I'd totally forgotten how grumpy Vilkas is when you first meet him )

I'll check there. Thing is, I passed there on my way to Rorikstead, but went off the road right before I passed the monument to say hey to some fellow Stormcloaks... Then I took a shortcut throught the terrain instead of going back to the road, so if Erik was standing there I might just have missed him.

He wasn't anywhere near Gjukar's Monument and I couldn't find anything indicating him being in the Hall of the Dead (how do you know that btw? Is the body lying there or something? I could only find nameless skeletons).

Unless he's disappeared from the game, I guess he's stuck somewhere between Rorikstead and Windhelm. How annoying.

When someone dies and is placed in the Hall of the Dead, there will be either a casket in a wall slot or a big urn on the floor. Half of Whiterun was there in one of my games.
