Major Archery Issue

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:23 pm

If thats true it seems to be de-optimizing the gameplay experience more than making it more memory friendly to consoles.

200 feet is not that bad if you run a Berserker type character, but for those whom rely on ranged combat almost 90-100% of the time like myself it poses a problem for long to semi long ranged engagements.

I don't find that it hinders my archery, but I'm sneaking 100% of the time while I am. It does svck that the draw distance did change, if I remember correct it seemed to be like 1000 feet or there abouts, but now it's 200ish feet. Still plenty of room for a safe distance from your target, just keep a sword handy.

Yeah the slim is going to have a bit of trouble rendering skyrim fully, but if it does annoy you long enough (which it probably won't) you can always make a nice, cheap, mand effective gaming pc.

My slim handles the game smashingly, it's the 250gb slim.

Same problem , same location and same mammoth, on 360 to . range svcks but cross bows will be much worse

WHAT??? crossbows are gonna RULE

you weren't shooting very far away then, height doesn't seem to factor into the limitation as much as pure horizontal distance.

I don't know, I haven't really noticed any difference between height vs flat distance.

I just hope someone influential in Bethesda sees this and something is done about the distance for arrows and I would assume magic spells aswell. for it is very aggravating especially with crossbows coming out soon. I want people to enjoy crossbows and bows like we did in oblivion and early Skyrim.

a drop of 80% in projectile distance is unacceptable if your numbers are true

I think the reasoning behind the optimization is that the game was already pushing the limits of what consoles can handle, so to ease up on the strain they shortened the draw distance along with other things, but the draw distance is easy to spot.

What type of Xbox are you on and how much memory is left on it?

Irrelevant. Let me say it again in other words, to see if it sinks in, because I'm sick of comments like this. The age and model of the Xbox have no bearing on how Xbox software behaves. As long as the system is performing up to spec, the games will work as designed.

This problem is the result of a limit in either the draw distance or the range of projectiles. It is internal to the software's design, and has nothing to do with the hardware.

I've never had a problem with arrows disappearing on my 360 version. I'm level 100 in archery, so I've had tons of experience . Only one time I can remember, shooting across a ridge over a trail, maybe 150-200 yards, and the arrow ways hitting the rock behind him, but could never hit him.

I feel this is worth a second glance by the appropriate Bethesda members. It would be a simple fix and not a huge impact memory wise or for whatever reason they had in the first place. Its not as if projectiles are being fired all the time into the distance i'm sure it wouldn't cause performance issues. It would only give people more of a reason to play on the consoles, the Xbox 360 in my case.

I'm not starting a console fight, but I do believe it was to help out the PS more so then the Xbox, but I could be wrong

I remember the quest Alduin's Wall where you escort Esbern and Delphine to Skyruler Temple and to get there you have to go though a ton of forsworn enemies. I remember pulling out my bow from a high up far away ledge and picking them off one by one while they scampered about trying to find the person decimating their men and women from a distance. Its the times like this that really keep Bethesda games close to my heart and I feel this change has ruined a otherwise expansive list of ever unique opportunities for players to be further enveloped by the beautiful world that is Skyrim.
