Sound problem back with a vengeance!

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:53 am

Ever since Skyrim was released I've had an annoying on again / off again sound problem. My sound would either quitely dissapear during the initial loading screen, or die with a loud squelch immediately after loading up my last save. A roll of the dice would then determine if sound was killed just for Skyrim, or for my entire computer, in which case I'd need to reboot.

While I've never been able to entirely fix this, I was able to redcuce it to an occasional annoyance by setting my sample rate ro 24 bit 44100 hz and making sure my USB headset was unplugged before I launched that game, I could play for days at a time without ever experincing a loss of sound, and I was content.

Now with 1.6, I have yet to be able to play the game with sound, ever single time I launch the game, it goes quite the first time I load the game, and kills the sound for my entire PC. Every Single Time.

I've been patient for six months. but now I've run out of patience. I'm no longer requesting help. I am DEMANDING A SOLUTION!

This means you Bethesda!

My system is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 @ 3ghz on an ASUS P5N32-E Motherboard and 8 Gigs of Ram. Geforce GTX 275 with 1792 MB of ram. Sound card is a PCI-E Creative X-Fi
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate and to the best of my knowledge all my drivers are up to date.

dxdiag available upon request.

- Correction it's not 24 bit but 16 that you need to set.

- Close all background applications except Steam.

- Create a new folder on the desktop, then go to My Documents - My Games - Skyrim and move everything to the new folder except the saves folder.

- Disable Steam In-game

- Create a new Windows Account and try to play from there -- don't ask why (there are a LOT of reasons) just do it =) -- If it doesn't work delete the new account
