Maven Black Briar's letter to Astrid

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:28 pm

I am the listener of the dark brotherhood and maven wants someone killed. Why can I not confront her on that and carry it out. And put the Fear of death in her when she threatens to get the DBH to kill me when I am the f****** listener

Lol I would strike her and her army down in a forknight. I don't remember if she just says it or it's in dialogue but it angers me and takes the immersion away when I'm the listener yet she will never be told

Big head likes fork night.

it is almost as incredible as spoon night :P

I always wanted to slap maven in the face when she talked down to me. She wouldn't act so rude if she new she was 5 seconds from becoming puppy chow.

Yeah, even if you are the listener, Maven would just get Thyrnn, Ninruin, or Dirge to take you out. And if you are the guild leader she would just hire thugs to do it. Maven is the real hardass of Skyrim.

There needs to be a "Clean up Skyrim" faction that breaks the Thieves Guild and finally puts that [censored] at the bottom of Lake Honrich.

Aren't these thing kinds of things Radiant Story was supposed to open up? Kill Thieves Guild/Maven (Failing the Thieves guild quests) but critical NPC's (Namely Delvin and Brynjolf) get reassigned to keep Main-quest related mumbo-jumbo open.

There's a lot that Radiant story was meant to do, sadly this is not the case, I think if worked on a little more then Radiant story can be something amazing, but until then I blame it for ruining most of the faction quest lines (though I could be wrong and the reason for the quest lines svcking is due to a different matter)

My thoughts exactly. Well, not exactly...

It's not Radiant Story's fault as a tool, it's that Bethesda realized too late it wasn't generating compelling content when used to the exclusion of handwriting.

I think that's why I'm looking forward to this Dawnguard expansion so much. I want to really see how they used Radiant Story without the pressing boot of a retail deadline.

The Best case scenario would be getting the Strengths of the Thieves Guild (Radiant quests that enhance the faction) with the Strengths of the Dark Brotherhood(Narrative focus that reinforces the Faction Identity)

Like you, I don't blame the tool, I do blame the fact that BGS primarily used the tool to generate quests only to see their mistake and attempt to reverse it, most of the faction quests (the college of winterhold in particular) feel unfinished due to the fact that it lacks "filler quests" and by that I mean quests that don't have anything to do with the story of the faction quest line.

Kinda like the fighters guild in Oblivion, where you had to find out who was killing that Dunmers rats, or had to retrieve that weapon from a tomb so someone could pay off their debts, they had nothing to do with the blackwood company story or the hist but were just there to fill up the story line.

In a way Skyrim does have these, but they're optional and because I was so focused on main story line I was completely unaware that they existed.
Plus the lack of ranks is a real bummer.

Edit: One of my reasons I'm looking forward to DG as well.

Pffffft. My third character destroyed the DB and killed as many Thieve's Guild characters as he could. Also, he stole Maven's thoroughbred stallion and wiped out the BlackFriar lodge. I've dedicated that character to RUINING Maven. She sent thugs after him once. Those thugs are currently being digested by fish in the sea near the WInterhold Mages College.

It would please me to no end to have a DLC or Expansion that allows me to finish my war against Maven and put her six feet under.

If I was a millionaire I would pay to have this expansion made, among others to of course.

I would strike down anyone who came at me. Anyone. As almost every other skyrim player would do. The fact that if she knew that I or anyone else was the listener of the DBH her having anyone come after you would be terrible for her. If that happened and I could I would have her crucified and let every beggar have his way with her. Stupid c***. Bethesda did a great job with making her character and story though. Good job

Faction Identity really was something sorely lacking... It makes sense in the Companions, Each Man, his own, each woman, her own... But for the College, Thieves Guild, and even the Dark Brotherhood, it kind of svcks you don't get that small affirmation that really reinforces the concept of an organization.

Pacing is another issue that could probably be linked to the Radiant Story Blunder as well. Both The Companions and College are very poorly paced. It's like 2 quests in, and you're already trying to save the world. Even the Thieves Guild does a better job at pacing. While the story there is really quite bad, it does hit all the right pacing notes at the right time. It's an example of a Bare minimum.

Of course, the stand-out in Pacing is easily the Dark Brotherhood. It feels the "Most Morrowind-Like", because as you progress, Astrid will gives you "Breathers". Opportunities to do some less-important work, or get out in the world and explore. The Dark Brotherhood should be the model for which all Skyrim Factions should follow. It only svcks that it appeals to a very Narrow type of character.

The Darkbrother hood quest line was nothing short of amazing, the thieves guild was hit and miss, if only the writer for Oblivions thieves guild story had written Skyrims one and perhaps the others, the factions did need more less-important jobs and I don't know why but being forced to be a werewolf in order to finish the companions quest was irritating to me, even though you weren't ever forced to transform it's annoying because it takes away the freedom for me and if I were a vampire then I'd of had to given that up in order to continue.

Hopefully BGS have learnt their lesson and the next TES game will resemble Morrowind more than Oblivion and Skyrim, I loved being somebody unimportant and doing simple quests, no big epic story to follow, just a simple person trying to rise up in the ranks, having to level certain skills in order to advance is needed back as well.

To this day I don't know what power the eye of Magnus was meant to hold, the Psijic order were a little underwhelming, but the lore of TES has always sounded better than the actual representation of it.

God, I sound like I hate Skyrim, which I don't, it's huge step up from Oblivion to me, just that like Oblivions main quest, it's a little underwhelming in some areas, Alduin didn't match up to my idea of this all powerful world eater, becoming a nightingale after being the Grey Fox in oblivion was a little disappointing for me, killing the emperor wasn't all that satisfying for me, you'd think with him dead Ulfric and the Stormcloaks would be celebrating yet nobody whispers a word of it.

OK rant over! I love Skyrim and every other TES game!

My apologies OP, I didn't mean to hijack your thread, just got carried away as I've never shared my gripes with Skyrim with anyone before.
