Still no followers patch?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:38 am

Just wondering if the faulty follower scaling is getting a fixing anytime soon. For those that don't know, follower stats are set from the moment that you first enter their cell - this renders many followers useless at later levels. For instance, I joined the college at level 2 on my current mage, so although Brelnya Maryon has the potential to use Summon Frost Atronach at higher levels, she never will on my current mage - she'll still be using Summon Familiar at her max level.

IMO this should be a top priority fix for Beth.

If you're on PC, just use UFO. It fixes that, allows more than 1 follower, and more.

I agree. It should be an easy fix for Bethesda. But just use the wabbajack. Go to the wiki for a guide on leveling your follower with the wabbajack. Its easy

I'm not on PC, and if I were, I'd still say this needs a fix. Console users should not be alienated.

A compromise, but you should not have to use a bug where an incredibly easy fix would be more appropriate.

Hmm. Well thanks for bringing this bug to my attention. No wonder my experience with followers has always been similar. Meaning Healing Hands. And more Healing Hands.

You can reset your followers level with the Wabbajack.

This^

You have to do the quest to get it but it only takes about 10 minutes. Here's how it works after you get the Wabbajack

Spoiler
1. Dismiss your follower

2. Fire at them with the Wabbajack until they change into a rabbit, mudcrab, or any animal

3. They'll revert back to their normal form in about 15-20 seconds. When they do they'll now be the same level as you provided you're not above their cap level. If you are above their cap level then they'll be at their cap (50 for Housecarls, 40 and 30 depending on the follower).

Make sure you save before you hit them with the Wabbajack because it can kill them by flat out killing them or turning them into a sweetroll or pile of coins. If that happens then just reload and try again. It's never taken me more than a couple of saves to get it done.

It's inconvenient but it only takes a minute to do.

Not all followers do this though. Derkeethus comes to mind. I'd go to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Followers for more information; the individual pages or talk pages on certain characters might help determine which followers can be Wabbajack'd into leveling.

Easier for me to just use tilde commands to reset them. Still, I figure that would have been fixed pretty quickly. Especially for the console folks.

There are good number of bugs that BS should have fixed by now that really leave me scratching my head as to why there not.

I am aware of only the tilde commands that show the followers stats, but not of fixing leveling. Even with the proper follower leveling number, I don't see any increase in Health, Stamina etc. Are you able to reset the Health, Stamina and Magic stats using a tilde command? If so, can you provide the process?

WABBAJACK HER!!! it brings them up to where they should... Lydia can take on army!

-edit- i'm not sure if they lose or there gear when you do it but just incase take all non-starting gear of them.
Personally i give them a hat and thats it, that way you should know when it works because they won't be wearing the hat anymore

Agreed.

There's no excuse for this not being fixed by now.

Well its always seemed to work for me.
  • Dismiss your follower
  • Hit ~
  • Left click on the follower
  • Type "disable" and hit enter - if it works your follower will disappear
  • Type "enable" and hit enter
  • Hit ~
  • The follower will reappear
  • Tell them to be your follower again
Don't recall when that hasn't worked for me. Now the pointer is really touchy so I've seen it select things besides your follower. If your follower doesn't disappear after typing disable and hitting enter, then you clicked on something else. Just type enable to bring whatever it was back and try clicking on your follower again.

I'm really hoping the follower stuff like setting their behaviour, distance to follow you at, and the customizing of their skills that we saw in the Game Jam video make it into a future patch or DLC.

I had tried this in the past and the only thing that updated for me was the level and not any stats. I tried again using your steps and it actually updated the stats, so I am very happy and thank you for the steps! Perhaps I did something wrong in my process when I had originally attempted this...

I'm happy now!

Because it's not as easy as saying "We need to fix this" and figuring out why it works on some builds of the game but not others?

It's quite possible they've fixed it on, say, the PC version, but something in the code of the Xbox or PS3 version isn't working- or it works, but it bugs something else very necessary instead.

Fixing bugs is not as easy as identifiying them- all the code, even the smallest, most benign script, has an impact on the other code in the game, especially when it comes to AI. Sometimes it takes awhile to unravel the knot of scripting issues that causes one, small, seemingly simple bug.

No there are bugs that are present on all platforms that should be rather simple to fix, if modders have fixed them already such as Ulfric Stormcloaks body not disappearing or even this issue. Things that have been known since release.

I must agree that it seems quite odd that they haven't fixed bugs like this yet. Your follower being able to function as, well, a follower is a lot harder when they end up "taking a knee" from stubbing their toe after a few levels of them, well, not leveling.

They also have the un canny ability to lose themselves out in the wild while I am adventuring. "Hey Lydia you got my back! Ly...Lydia? (Lighting Mage comes as you turn around) Well It's not the first time."

It really is an annoying bug. Can't have followers for too long. The potential wake of bodies makes me feel guilty and mother hen-ish. Not a good thing in the middle of a Falmer dungeon, constantly whirling around to check on 'em. Dog followers are the worst when it comes to not leveling. Die so easily. :(

These are usually quick fixes, no? Not hard code fixes. Which I'm sure is much different than just laying a mod over the game to hide the bug or whatnot.

Sure the game need some fixing, but what the guy said is right. If you fix one thing, just one, you can break 1000 more. With quests, especially this radiant AI stuff, 1 typo can possibly screw up an entire faction; we have no idea.

It is what it is at this point.
