A follow-up 1.6 update suggestion: Side Roll

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 7:38 am

I would like to suggest a "Side Roll" follow-up update on the upcoming Skyrim 1.6 patch .

Retaining/getting the "sneak forward roll" animation for this, with these following mechanics:

1. While pressing/holding 'A' or 'D' (left or right) button, then press the 'space' or the (Jump) button to 'execute a side roll' rather than a 'low side jump' on that direction.
"(Hold) A or D + Space = Side Roll"

or

2. While pressing/holding 'A' or 'D' (left or right) button, and holding the Right Shift (Sprint) button, then press the 'space' or the (Jump) button to 'execute a side roll' .
"(Hold) A or D + Right Shift + Space = Side Roll"

or

3. "Only in sneaking" mode. While pressing/holding 'A' or 'D' (left or right) button, then press the 'space' or the (Jump) button to execute a side roll (Although I don't really recommend this due to limiting its usage while on 'sneak mode' only).
"(Sneak Mode Enabled) + (Hold) A or D + Space = Side Roll"

Why?
  • To add an additional optional 'evasive movement' for combat/sneaking (comparable to: Devil May Cry series, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Guild Wars, and etc).
  • Most of the time 'jumping is useless in melee combat'.
  • To make the combat a lot more 'interactive/action packed' IMO.

Thank you very much.

I think using the sprint key while moving sideways would be better. People would never get used to having their jumping key altered.

Thanks! I totally agree on that one, but will still leave that here to act as an additional option.

So based on your experience; is there really a chance that any of our suggestions will get noticed by the developers?

Your proposed keys for this feature are way too complex. Why not just strafe + sprint, similar to how the forward roll works?

Agree, any simple key combinations are much preferable. Although It might create some complications while sprinting.

Yes there was, I just recently read it http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/927345-/59148113. I hope the devs can bring these features back.

Well, imo i find the strafing speed fast enough, hah :P

So it'll probably be in for "fun" reasons rather than for usage.

it wouldn't create any problems if you made it purely a sneak feature like the forward roll...and you'd really have to use if from crouch for it to be a natural movement at all anyway. i'd enjoy that feature, a nice quick getaway back around the corner...

Great idea! In this way, this feature will no longer have any complications with the 'standing side jump'.

This feature will act as an 'additional' stealth/sneak/crouching action/function at a cost of stamina (for anti-spam/balancing issue).

To the devs: Please add this up to the 1.6 patch!

They should have this in all four direction while standing and sneaking. Sprint + Jump should be usable, though some people may have their control setting bit difficult to do this at same time on Xbox 360 and PS3.
