Breton or Imperial?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 8:55 am

I'm still having some trouble with this build, but now we're at the races.
I'm flirting with Imperial and Breton (though Nord is ALWAYS a possibility)
Gonna be a heavy armor/restoration/on handed character, so the Imperial boosts are perfect.
However, Bretons get a natural 25% magic resistance.

So what's better, an early stat boost, or permanent magic resistance?
I'm leaning towards Breton, because screw mages.

Well Breton would be your best choice because an early on bonus isn't needed in my opinion. But really the race of a character is pure preference and doesn't have much to do with stats and stuff for me.

Most starting skills are meaningless as you can raise them pretty quick. The Bretons mr is good through end game and saves a couple of perks or an enchant.

I made a similar character as a Breton and love the magic resistance, so highly recommend using a Breton.

Nord.. If I had to choose between Imperial and Breton I'd probably go for Imperial.

I'm defensively minded, so I tend to go for Bretons. Imperial Luck is useless to me. The times I don't go for Bretons is when I want to make my Ultimate Defensive Argonian Vampire.

Based on purely what is better? A magic resist +25 is one of the most powerful enchants- for free... Or like 5 skill points to start with- that anyone can make up. This question isnt that hard.

Still seeing race topics- race in
Skyrim is more an rp choice- breton wins hands down, but all races can do just fine- so choose what you want to be.

Breton, the magic resistance is beneficial no matter what way you play.

Yeah, like I'd said, I'm still undecided. I'm trying to think hard into this, but I usually end up with just gut instinct in the end anyway.
I just wanted to see what some others thought about the racial benefits, I've never played a Breton before.

I'm probably just gonna end up a Nord anyway. Love those guys. - 3-

Voice of the Emperor is a high level calm spell so its useful. Its good if you're not going to use Illusion.

I use the Voice of the Emperor all the time. It is a very useful Calm spell that helps if you get overwhelmed. Also, I have not ever made money so fast as when I was an Imperial. Every time you get gold, Imperials get extra.

Considering that Bretons are the best race of the entire TES world, Breton is the best choice.

id have to go with the magic resistance, since i dont believe that normal (unenchanted) armor resists magic.

I went Imperial on the grounds that I would have more money to buy better gear and trade skill items.

I'd choose imperial, as imperial you find always more money, and the voice of the emperor is one of the most usefull stuff in my arsenall.

I would go with RPing and not worry about min-maxing stats. The character sounds more like an Imperial than a Breton. In the end, go with what you want.

The magic resistance of the Breton is better than anything the Imperial has to offer. More money? Ha! Money is so easy to get in this game that there's certainly no reason to need that. If you really need calm for combat just raise your illusion up and get the calm spell. You can use that any time you want instead of just once per day which is really pathetic just like most of the racial powers.

Resistance to magic comes in handy every time you face a magic user and cuts out a considerable amount of their attack power. Toss on the Lord Stone and you've got a One/two combo that makes fights against mages a piece of cake without using any enchantment slots or taking any potions.

Argonian. Regeneration perk+Histskin is godly.

Seriously though you should probably go Breton. Either that or flip a coin.

I recently created a Breton mage character and recomend the Breton for the +25% magic resistance. My first character was a Nord to tie in with the main story better. I built the Breton not only for the magic resistance but also in case future Dlc involves the Forsworn.
