help with achery?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 1:18 pm

I cannot understand how everyone has been saying how archery is overpowered, whenever i have tried playing a pure archer, even with a splash of conjuration i end up getting my butt handed to me by most enemies (not playing master).

What i would like to know is, how does one make archery so powerful? i know the restoration exploit but i won't use that. is it based on enchant/smithing?

The overpowered feeling comes with a combination of perks and enchanted gear. Take a sneak shot with the Deadly Aim perk, with gear that fortifies your Archery skill, and you one-shot almost everything on master. Even easier while using Eagle Eye and Steady Hand. You don't even have to enchant your gear yourself. Just using the stock enchanted stuff (like Ring of Peerless Archery) that you find in shops and chests will have the same result.

My bow is roughly as strong as my one handed weapons, but that's with all 5 perks boosting one handed, versus the 1 in archery so I could get the zoom feature. I imagine my bows would be twice as powerful as my one handed weapons if I went for all the perks in Archery.

I play as a sneaky archer who occasionally uses swords and does not use enchantments on weapons, but will use enchanted armor if he finds it. Two of the enchants on my clothing raise my damage for archery and I use an ebony bow. Most of the time I'll get the 3x sneak bonus so he's a pretty powerfull guy, even though he only uses steel arrows. I can take down most of the more powerful enemies in the game with ease, unless there are like more than three of them.

One-hit kill slow motion ranged attack with sneak damage and a fast fire rate.... Yes, a developed archer can do very well indeed.

Get a legendary smithed daedric bow, from then on you can stealth hit dragons and kill em in like 8 shots.

I have two pieces of gear with fortify archery 40% each and use an unenchanted Forsworn bow fully smithed and one hit anything except dragons, but even they only take a couple. I purposely don't enchant my weapons cause I'm tired of recharging. Have the full archery perk tree as well. I don't use archery that much anymore cause it almost feels like cheating.

I prefer alchemy over enchanting, with no smithing.
This way I can make fortify archery potions and only use them when I really need them.
I also get poisons, resist potions and all kinds of other affects.
With all alchemy can give, you can get multiple play styles with just one character.

Once I unlocked the perks slow down time, chance to stagger, and chance to paralyze enemy, and reached level 100... I can literally kill any dragon with 5-10 arrows using a Long Bow and Iron Arrows, let alone ANY lesser enemy with less than or equal to 3 arrows..... on Expert.

Oh wait, I forgot I had a ring, hood, and necklace with 25% damage bonus for archery. :ninja:

Part (perhaps most)of the "overpowered" connotation given to archery really comes from sneak.

The simple fact of the matter is that once you've beefed up sneak, you practically end up a ghost. Enemies will walk and stand right beside you, and often see nothing. Because of that, archery ends up pretty much the "strongest" form of attack.

First post!, anyways at first I found archery fairly lack luster, but level it up and getting sneak up as well will make you an unstoppable force from the shadows (once sneak is high enough even in middle of a well lit room), the two skills go hand and hand.

Although I'm fully aware of the extreme benefits of alchemy I just can't bring myself to do it. Alchemy is the only part of the entire game I find boring and have no interest in whatsoever. Which kinda svcks and I have tried many times I just can't ever find any fun in it. The only reason I ever leveled it was to reach level 81 and those couple days felt like months!!! I just keep multiple armor sets on me and switch depending on in game circumstances.

I use exactly that, archery with conjuration and I play on master.

If you use smithing and create a good bow and couple that with a high sneak skill, you're basically invincible. Not because you can soak up damage but because nobody even gets close enough to touch you. If you're a low level archer you'll get killed easily if you don't have the right perks, the ability to move fast and draw your arrows quicker are a must if you plan to march into open combat and win with a bow. If you play sneaky, get the extra sneak damage perk and invest in poisons via alchemy.

Get fortify archery enchantments. My bow or gear isn't even that good and my bow does around 300 damage, in large part because of said enchantments.

Someone made a good post comparing best daggers vs best maces for sneaking. If I remember correctly the maces (with 1h perks) came out on top, even with the DB gloves.

That being off topic, I play a sneak archer and overpower everything in expert. 1 shot a majority of monsters besides dragons. If you get to 100 sneak and don't kill them then you just run to a shadowy area, destealth and rest stealth and you pretty much vanish to the enemy (unless he is on top of you). Or conversely if you finish the nightingale quest, you can actually vanish once a day.

I can't remember how many of the Archery Perks I picked, (three or four Overdraw and the Steady Aim), but I did end up with four Archery Enchanted items of apparel, (35%, 30%, 20% and 20%, all found, none created by me), an Ebony Bow (Legendary). and with the 1.5 glitch where better arrows gave too much additional damage, I was hitting 550 hit point when sneaking. Would've been over 800 had I known to get the Deadly Aim Perk in the Sneak Tree. So yes, way overpowered.
