No enchanting services?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 4:12 pm

I have been using Dawnbreaker a lot as my primary weapon, but it ran out of charges. I see nobody in the game has the ability to recharge my weapon, like Oblivion. Why the hell not? I don't want to increase my Conjuration skill. I just want to pay somebody gold to refill my weapon. What the hell is up with that?

So pay someone gold for a filled soul gem and use it to recharge your weapon yourself... You don't even need an enchanting station to do it... If it raises your enchanting skill when you do this then there's no way around leveling from it but enchanting is a good skill to have anyway...

Just go buy some filled soul gems from somebody and use them to recharge it, you don't need any conj skill to do so.

I'm pretty sure that still raises your conjuration skill.

No, Enchanting... if it even raises any skill at all.

This was a really bad design choice.

Refilling weapons with soul-gems doesn't train any skill, last I checked.
Everything that trains enchanting is done at an enchanting table.
Everything that trains conjuration involves spells from the conjuration tree.
Simple.

OP: Get the Black Star... and a soul trap weapon. That will solve all your problems.

Oh noes! It might increase by 2 points! /gasp, it's the end of the world. You don't have to put perks in conjuration, If i was that worried about skill increases i would have gone insane by now, like having to heal myself when i run out of potions on my pure warrior, yeah my restoration goes up by like 1 point, but at least i'm not dead. :o

It a completely bad design choice yes, its just another feature that was for some reason removed.

Bethesda has pulled out all the stops in reducing magic to a shell of its former self.

Does recharging items with soul gems/Black star really level up conjuration? That might have a big effect on my future plans on my current character...

Why didn't they include some mages that could recharge your stuff for gold...

Yeah it does though a bit slowly. Still at a low skill level it might do it every other recharge. As for why they did not include any mages that could do it, it was probably a feeble attempt to add value to the skill. If you could just pay someone to do it why level the skill type of thing. And just how removing open lock did not make pick locks a better skill, removing NPC enchanters does not make enchanting a better skill it just makes it required but it still does the same things as before. It is the lazy way to make something valuable, don't actually improve the skill just make it so you need to use it at certain points.

Oh well, then it seems it will not ruin my leveling any more than lockpicking, because I've hit the soft level cap already.

Yes, enchanting, my mistake. Thanks for catching that.

There is one mage in the college you can ask to do some enchanting for you, but he refuses. It would have been nice to have some mages for hire. THey went to the trouble to include mercenaries, yet they took out mage services. Strange.
