Input Lag - very real

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 2:47 pm

So last night I posted in the 1.3 update thread about this input lag problem I now have.

I previously ran Skyrim off the disk using patch 1.1. Last night I finally installed it to the hard drive and updated to 1.3. I immediatly noticed input lag in my game, meaning, the controls were slighly lagging behind in response time. Most noticable is on horseback with Shadowmere. When I press jump, it takes a moment before the horse actually jumps. This never happened to me before.

So I uninstalled the game, cleared cache, tried running from disk again, to no avail. I have this weird input lag. So then I downloaded a number of demo games to see if it was my machine. I honestly couldn't tell if my mind was playing tricks on me. But Fable 3 demo seemed input laggy too. I then felt my machine and it was hot, so I wondered if I had a hardware issue with the 360. I didn't think to try it on the backroom TV, and the next day I packed up the 360, which was fairly new, and returned it after I removed my save files onto a flash USB.

So I get the new machine home, set it up, and reinstall Skyrim and my save files. Same thing. Input lag. I then tried it on the backroom TV to make certain it wasn't the living room display. Same thing on that TV, input lag.

Which leads me to the conclusion that for some reason the patch is causing this weird input lag for me now, on two seperate machines, But I don't see anyone else having this issue so I'm perplexed.

Yes, I went out and exchanged 360's so the controllers were different. Also tried replacing the batteries.

I doubt this is a problem with the 1.3 patch. I have had this issue ever since the new Xbox Dashboard update was released. This isn't a 1.3 patch problem this is a problem with the new Dashboard software that was released. It's caused all kinds of input lag issues with my games. Because I was running 1.1 patch before the 1.3 patch came out and this Input lag happened after I downloaded the Dashboard update. Before that I had no input lag issues what so ever.

So I firmly believe the 360 new Dashboard update is the culprit. Not 1.3

I had this problem with Skyrim on the PS3. It was linked to the savegame lag problem- the more you played, the bigger the file got, the more it input lagged. Input lag was really the thing that got me to get a refund for PS3 skyrim and get it on the xbox- the whole experience was so much less fun when it felt like you were controlling a tank.

This is a very good point.

If it was a problem with the New Dashboard Software do you not think that alot of other people would be complaining also? Mine works perfectly fine and so does everyone else i know, im sure this would have been raised by alot of people if this was actually the case?

Are you playing on a slim 360 or the elite? If it is the dashboard update that may be the problem

Brand new 360 slim 250gig here. 2 seperate new systems within a month and the same thing on both since I installed to the HD on both and updated to 1.3. But the dashboard was also updated on both which throws another wrench into it for me. I thought perhaps my save files were corrupted somehow since I finally installed to the HD about 60 hours into the game, with the new patch.

I tested other demos on the system I returned and I couldnt tell for certain if I was getting input lag on some of them, but they did seem a little drifty, with Fable 3 having the same if not worse input lag issues as Skyrim.

Its not your 360 or skytrim. Its either your controller or your television.

Incorrect. There were no previous issues until 1.3 patch, HD installs and new dashboard were applied. Ran perfectly prior, using the exact same TV display, which means one of the update changes, install, or combination of these, has caused the issue for me. Moreover, it was tested on two different LCD TV's with two different controllers, one controller a month old with new batteries, the next a brand new out of box controller with new batteries. .

I hate to burst your hope here but just because you installed 1.3 doesn't necessarily mean some of your other hardware isn't going on the fritz or having issues. Could be mere coincidence.

I'm currently having no issues with input lag or anything of that nature. I have a 360 60GB Pro and a fresh clean save file, cache, and patch for Skyrim.

Doubtful. I understand why you’re suggesting this since two new 360’s are doing it. However, both displays are doing it, but they both work fine with the PS3’s we have hooked up to them. More to the point, the game was running perfectly fine under the current set up, right until the moment I did said install of patches and install to hard drive.

IMO, more than likely it’s an issue with my saved files and something that has changed between installing patches, HD install. You’re experience of not having the issue is not conclusive of it being a hardware issue outside of the 360. A lot of people are getting different weird experiences with this game.

This is not encouraging me to install this game to my hard drive. Ever. I haven't had any issues running the game off of the disk, though. I can live with slightly longer loading times if it means avoiding all of these other problems people seem to be having.

Have you tried uninstall, no updates, no save files. Start a new game and see what happens.

Sorry if I missed you saying you did this. Sounds like you have only tried with saved files.

1.3 patch changed Y-axis movements to keep them inline with the frames per second count. If your getting input "lag" then re-adjust your look axis sensitivity option in the games menu till its comfortable again.
