IGN's Follow-up - Here it is... sort of...

So much for expecting real media pressure for the game to be fixed.

I'm glad that Patch 1.2 helped most of the PS3 Users (Just like Bethesda said).

The gaming "press" is laughable. The actual role of a true press is to act as a check against other powers and provide for freedom of information. I understand game reviewers aren't necessarily real reporters, but there is potentially quite a story in here. Did Bethesda know about issues with the ps3 version? If not, what is going on with their QA team? are they rushing games out the door without testing them? What are Sony's comments? If they *did* know about the issues, why was the game released? Does this open them up to legal action? a product recall?

Every story I've seen so far basically says, "We reached out to Bethesda for comment. They didn't respond." Yeah... so your response is to just sit and wait? It's called reporting people, talk to people on and off the record. Do a little digging. Break an actual story. Sigh.

If they go after Bethesda too harshly, the next time a big release is coming, Game-trailers will be getting exclusive interviews and/or teasers, while IGN will be sitting in the dark.

it's how the industry works.

I think the game should be recalled, but will Bethesda do it? Of course not, they'll just keep promising patches to fix it, even though it probably never will be. Not with patches at least.

They don't teach you this at journalism school anymore. John Swinton, a writer for the New York Times in the late 1800's put it best when he said this: http://www.constitution.org/pub/swinton_press.htm

Sounds a lot like politics doesn't it? Rub my back and I'll rub yours.

50 seconds almost for nothing,at least they did mention the subject but acknowledging that problem is far too serious, the game is unplayable, they had to be more harsh

The video IGN made is the perfect example of what's happening to me in my game. It's not totally broken yet, but it's smooth > slide show > smooth > slide show, and so on. There are much more extreme examples of this, like Zidane Tribal's videos and others that are on youtube.

honestly I'm sick of this kind of reply. especially when i have not been able to play a game that i paid nearly $70 dollars for nearly two weeks now. I'm at the point and I'm sure others are they would rather have the game recalled or straight out refunded.

A refund to the amout of value it's lost while sitting on my shelf would be fair. Cost me £40, can't play it, now it's down to £15 in some stores.

That's it? You mean that's IGN's follow-up? What a waste of space. And if you ever needed proof of how utterly irrelevant IGNorant is...there we have it, in black and white. The lap dog of big business. You know what's really annoying about that piece? It actually reads like it was slapped together in haste, probably between morning coffee and that lull you get just before you head off to lunch.

Quite frankly, I've had it with Bethesda and the so-called "gaming media". My game on the PS3 is broken, and has been for the last month ([censored] HELL I EVEN PRE-ORDERED). Since Bethesda doesn't even have the decency to allow PS3 gamers to just download a free copy of the Steam version (as a sign of goodwill), I'm just going to take it. Yeah, you know what I mean. I've paid for my copy, it doesn't work, and you're not getting a [censored] cent out of me ever again. Guess what Einsteins? Guess what I'm going to do from now on Bethesda?

My thoughts exactly. IGN, as it turns out, has no staff willing or able to dig deep here, to independently investigate the software or press Bethesda employees for comment. A 24/7 video game site, arguably the industry's most popular, produces in this article no content that goes beyond what a 15-yr. old with a video camera and YouTube account could develop. When presented a gold mine for unique content, all they muster is, "That lag? Yup, we see it, too." Wow guys, don't strain yourselves. And don't revisit that rating; wouldn't want to make too many bold moves so quickly, right? You can be sure they'll muster the energy to send some "reporters" to the next video game expo, meanwhile. Pathetic to squander this opportunity. I don't get it.

And today Betatesda celebrates 10 million copies sold. Pete Hines and Todd Howard refused to thank their fans for buying this game, for winning the goty awards, etc. Zinemax's Robert Altman, however, thanked the fans. Maybe they got some flack about it from the spiketv awards a few days ago? Regardless, IGN is crap.

Actually it reads more like a crappier version of something that's already on youtube. I mean Tim Clark and Digital Foundry reported on this issue a *month* ago, with more in-depth anolysis, longer video and better opinions and commentary. IGN meanwhile reports that... they've managed to pile up a save game that sometimes lags. Way to go guys. I can't wait for the in-depth article next month on sometimes being disconnected from the Battlefield servers.

well i understand that we are all on the same boat more or less,i will have faith but from 11/11/11 this game was shipped and still 2012 will be broken...i hope journalists will keep mentioning about how broken is the version of PS3,although it is such a contradiction to tell that a game is broken and GOTY at the same time...

I am with you on this one. I waited a long time for a new Elder Scrolls game after I beat Oblivion, and I got a piece of junk with lag and broken quest lines.

Have faith? Faith lost already.

The real Skyrim will come out in 2012 (maybe). What we have is a load of garbage.
