Dual wield Daggers viable?

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 6:23 pm

Hi im not sure if this has been discussed yet but as you can see by the amount of posts i have i wouldn't know if it has or hasn't. So what do you guys think?, personally i play as a Archer/Assasin type bosmer character who uses dual wield daggers for backup when i get cornered or whatever.

From my experience playing on expert i have struggled to deal efficient damage with daggers, the increased attack speed doesn't really seem to compansate for the lack of damage they dish out, i dont know maybe it's just me.

I guess what i am tyring to ask is if there is anyone who has tips on how to use daggers effectively, i use them for role-play reasons mostly i guess so any help would be much appreciated.

I prefer longswords or axes since dual is only really effective when making power attacks and daggers is not damaging enough to make it worthwhile for me.

If you have a high smithing & enchanting, I'd say go the power route. Drink some potions, enchant some clothes so your smithing is even higher, and then make the most powerful daggers you can. They're not going to be anywhere near the level of other weapons crafted in the same manner, as I'm sure you already know, but if you're keeping them for RP purposes; this will give you a fighting chance.

Daggers don't benefit from One-Handed damage enchants (besides the Armsman perk), but coupled with sneak (perk that gives x15 sneak attack bonus with daggers) they are extremely viable. Have fun. For even higher numbers, the DB gloves can double that to x30 damage, making your sneak attacks easily one shot everything.

The character I'm playing as the most right now is a lvl 41 sneak archer/assassin, with daggers used for up-close assassinations. Archery is practically her sole means of fighting, and she's great at that. Decided to go head-to-head, dagger-to-dagger with a thief yesterday (dual-wielding a nice Elven dagger and Mehrune's Razor) and only survived thanks to potions. Granted, the thief was wearing glass armor, and my elf only in clothing, but I like that she's so vulnerable when not in her element. As to your character, work on your smithing and one-handed if you want your pig stickers to do some real damage.

Mehrunes Razor + Dagger + Elemental Fury = candidate for scariest thing in the game. Even when Elemental Fury is on cooldown, so long as you've got the speed perks you can still tear enemies down with haste.

Not even going to try to read that, pointless putting the font that small.

The problem with dual daggers is the awkward slow dual power attack, all other dual combos have a super quick spin. Surely dagger+dagger should be the fastest way to attack, but it fails in comparison to dagger+sword.

The dual dagger power attack isn't affected by dual flurry or elemental fury either, not sure why the hell they did this.

Yes, it is. I've played a character who dual-wielded daggers, an although it was challenging, she managed to cut down many a bandit and a bunch of Forsworn.

My advice would be to hold on to any enchanted daggers you find. For ages my character used her 'Iron Dagger of Embers' simply because it Did more damage than her steel dagger.

Daggers are mainly for sneak. Best to go the Ranger route and carry a longsword along with your bow.

If you really want to use daggers, put points into Armsman and enchant them, or find enchanted ones. I don't think they benefit from gear with Fortify One-Handed, but I may be wrong. If you have points in Smithing, you can improve them pretty well with a Blacksmith's Potion along with a ring or gloves that fortify smithing, such as the Silverblood Family Ring you get from the Forsworn Markarth quest. My Mehrunes Razor does about 80 or so base damage, I use it for my Rangers offhand when Chillrend isn't enough.

if you're having trouble in melee make a duelist build. I play as duelist/archer, which basicly is a theif/assassin that uses qucik one-handed swords. The increased damage out-put is really nice when backed into a cornor or the enemy gets close-up.
