M'aiq the Liar - clue about the disappearance of Dwemer clue

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 5:10 pm

While riding through the snowy forest on Shadowmere heading to Winterhold to fulfill an assassination contract, I stumbled across the cheeky Khaiijt , M'aiq the Liar. So I stopped to see what he had to say and he said something like: "I know why the the Falmer are blind. It has nothing to do with the disappearance of the Dwemer. It really doesn't." (Or something to that extent). This sparked many ideas in my nerdy brain. (Falmer are the remnants of the lost race: Snow Elves and the fabled race: Dwemer or Dwarves as you may call them) And knowing that he is 'the Liar', he probably knows what happend, just doesn't want to give info.

I wanted to share this with you guys to here your thoughts/input.
And I'll take sometime to find some books on the related subject in Skyrim and try to update this topic.

Brilliant. Assuming he is actually lying, this means that Falmer and Dwemer are directly connected. Possibly trapping Falmer underground, forcing them into caves and tunnels.

Great find!

The Falmer and Dwemer are connected.

The Falmer went to the Dwemer looking for refuge from the invading Nords.
The Dwemer later tricked the Falmer and feed them poison mushrooms, blinding them.
The Falmer started a war, but later the Dwemer disappeared because of them messing with the Heart of Lorkan

Thanks a lot!

I found his exact quote on the Elderscroll wiki: M'aiq knows why http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Falmerareblind. It has nothing to do with the http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dwemer disappearing. Really.

Everything Ma'iq says is an in-joke about the game series, or sometimes they adopt things to add to the games like the "Fishy Sticks" from the forum, and these things may appear in what Ma'iq says as well.

For instance, some members of the forum (myself included) wanted to get Bethesda to make Ma'iq comment on the "laymen", or the large group that joined purely for the beta and immediately disappeared afterwards, and displayed little in the way of "common sense" by asking the same questions that had been asked and answered many, many times before aand making individual, unnecessary topics for each instead of posting them in the appropriate topic.
One such suggestion included "Ma'iq saw a laymen once. Horrible creature, always howling. Ma'iq has never seen one since then."

That post got a bit out of hand, so I'll just tell you what I meant: don't take what Ma'iq says to heart, because everything he says is a joke.

This. Just like in Morrowind where he says he likes to eat horses, how to become a Lich, and that Dragons are still flying above Vvanderfell but are invisible. What http://www.gamesas.com/user/694590-pcvorholzer/ said is exactly what happened, and there is nothing more about it.

EDIT: on the other hand, there is one thing in Morrowind he wasn't lying about though.

Everything m'aiq says is indeed a joke related to in-game mechanics. Such as:

M'aiq feels mysticism is uneccesary. - regarding the exclusion of mysticism

M'aiq does not remember his childhood. Perhaps he never had one. - regardimg the fact that there are only human children.

Not entirely sure what the joke is behind the falmer, but dont read into it too much. :)
