Creating CompanionsFollowers

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 10:47 am

So I see that creating an actor is on the wiki, so I tried following that except the only changes I made was add factions which was follower, marry, and player. So then I added the npc to The Bannered Mare and left it like that and saved file (I'm not super genius computer smart and getting in deep depth with useing programs like these). I walked in the tavern and everyone attacked the npc, it was essential so it didn't die, and I couldn't even talk to it.

All I want to do is create a custom follower with inventory access, marry option, etc just like the ones you can already have as followers in game.

you probably set its aggression to high, anything above aggressive will cause problems, I am also trying to create a follower and am currently having trouble setting up dialog to make him hireable

You could try putting your NPC in the TownRiverwoodFaction faction.

In the AI-data, check the aggression level and the Morality, make sure your npc is peaceful and not a thief. The factions you mention shouldn't cause the problems, so it must be either morality or aggression, most likely aggression.

What i tried to do in creating a follower was to copy stenvar and make changes. My goal was to make a dremora follower. The current issue i have is that when i talk to him the hire dialog wont show up, but if i have a follower already it shows up.

In line with what Emma writes, you might want to check out http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/AI_Button. It refers to some equivalent Oblivion AI commands, but may at least furnish a jumping off point. I found it useful when tailoring a couple of merchant companions for an unfinished mod.

I made a follower based on Sven, but I added the Potential and Current Hireling factions to him a la Marcurio. I removed everything relating to Sven.

When I talk to the follower he doesnt have any dialogue, he just asks if I need something. :(

Agression should be no higher than 5 I believe.

I made a discovery why dialogues don't show up with potential followers and potential marriage custom npcs, open the console and type "setrelationshiprank player 4" and "addtofaction 19809 1" for some reason even though you force them to faction in the CK it still wont work until you type that in. I made custom khajiit npc from scratch my spouse and follower and even made her a vendor, even though I set those as factions it didnt work till I typed those console commands.

I'm working on a companion/follower mod for myself (might release if I like how it turns out) but I'm having a problem being able to talk to the npc.

As an example, if I wanted to be able to talk to a Flame Atronach what would I do?

I copied the stray dog npc and changed the race and a few other things.
So far what I've managed to do is have the creature ready itself when I draw a weapon and follow me around. But I can't talk to it even though I've added it's name to the dialogfollower quests where I can tell it to follow me or hold my stuff.

I'm a baby modder so I'm sure I'm missing plenty of steps.

I haven't tried to do any animal companions yet, but first of all you'll have to add your unique creatures to the quest aliasis for the DialogFollower quest. Make also sure that you read the tutorial for quest-making in the wiki, it should be helpful in order to understand what is needed.
