Help with UI modding

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 1:44 pm

Hi Guys. New to the forum and to modding in general. So I want to mod the UI itself, the menus. For example the items menu, how do I go about that? I have already installed the creation kit and played around with it a bit and read some tutorials. The problem is most of them are around creating quest and designing levels or creating or changing npcs. I haven't seen anything around changing the UI.

Any help appreciated! :D

Pretty sure there's good news and bad news here. Good news is the new UI system is extremely powerful and flexible. Bad news is you need a flash editor to work with it, and those aren't cheap (or free anyway.)

But how does it actually work? How do I get to UI menus in the CK? And why exactly would I need a flash editor? Do I need a flash editor to change the way the items are displayed in the items menu??

Thanks for the reply!

Here's http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1290652-modding-the-gui/page__hl__modding. AFAIK the release of the CK hasn't changed anything - the UI was created outside of the CK entirely, using Flash editing tools. Flash is a proprietary Adobe product, meaning Bethesda can't really release the tools to work with it without licensing them from Adobe, which would be (ludicrously) expensive. So its a little like creating a new set of armor, i.e. the CK can't be used to model things, you need 3rd party software like Blender or 3ds Max. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a Flash equivalent of Blender (you'll have to pay for the tools.)
