Should I do tutorial video's?

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:29 am

Hey everyone,

I had long ago decided that I should do tutorial video's to give back to the community, as all the help I got from you guys is what made me what I am today. However, not only is my current project prooving far larger than I had originally planned, but it appears Bethesda may have tutorials under control?

Do you guys like their tutorials? Do you think I should do my own? I would cover all topics pertaining to work within the CK. Level design (Including actual tips, not just 'this is how you place stuff'. Things about flow and concept and whatnot), scripting (once I learn it ), events, scripting cutscenes, NPC's, etc.

What do you guys think? I figure if everyone is like "Yeah, do them!" then I will, but if I pass by unnoticed then I'll just focus on my work.

Nah, not necessary. Thanks for the offer, though.

If you feel like you can provide a good tutorial, go for it.

I'd be interested in any tips for level design, especially with creating exterior areas. I imagine scripting, events, and cut-scenes will be something many will struggle with.

Wait for Bethesda to finish releasing theirs, then if you see something that needs more coverage, or something entirely new to cover, then go ahead.

Not possible to have too many tutorials. The most experienced modders might not be the best people to ask :D.

Ask some of us that feel under water. More tutorials? YES PLEASE.

Some people explain things better than others so go for it. You never know who you might help. Can never have too many tutorials.

Many people such as myself are deaf or hard of hearing. So if you do make a video I would suggest adding proper subtitles. For this reason I've learned everything off text, never off of youtube videos. Google's auto-subtitle service is horrendous.

This. A duplicate tutorial wouldn't really be worth it. But if you can do your own series that covers things in more detail, or different things to Bethesda, then go for it.

My thoughts exactly. Bethesda's video tutorials are great, but they can't cover everything in just a 10 video series.
