Watch out for the walls in the Cave Kit

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 11:09 pm

I am following along with the CK tutorial and have come to making the cave using the Cave Kit and have found a slight problem, one caused by myself and easily avoided but something other people might do.

When I dropped the cave wall pieces into the editor and started building the cave I decide to mix the 4 wall types up instead of keeping them in pairs, this looked like it was going great until I dropped the floor in and the seams didnt line up with the walls. Rotating the floors just shifted the problem to a different edge.

I deleted and started again, this time I noticed the walls were orientated as if to be top, bottom, Lside, Rside so paird them up and built the cave and the floor fitted no problems.

Are the cave walls no meant to be rotated from their original orientation?

Have you seen the official video tutorials for the CK? They mention that not all the cave sets match perfectly which is intentional to allow for more organic level design.

The written tutorial says the same thing but it dont think a floor like what I had was intended, it wasnt just a couple of gaps they were everywhere the floor joined the wall.

Fixable for sure but you would rather not.

Yeah, I ran into that as well. Thought I would mix up the edges to get a more diverse feel, but quickly found that wasn't entirely possible. Still, once you start throwing in the clutter for the side walls it doesn't make much of a difference.
