Window Management in the CK

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 4:10 pm

Is there any way to get all of the individual windows in the CK (Object/Cell/Render) to align/scale to a maximized CK window (the big main window)?

By default, it's sized to something a little smaller than my screen resolution (1920 x 1200) and when I maximize the main window, the smaller windows remain at their default sizes.

I know I can individually resize the smaller windows but I was looking for an automated solution - considering that window management (tile, cascade, etc) is pretty standard in Windows programming (or software in general)!

I was dissapointed that the CK didnt take advantage of WIndows 7 and the Pane locking features.
eg- Drag one window left, drag another right, and they immediately take up 50% each.

Alas... they didnt do that

I hope they release some patches for CK soon

I get the feeling that the programmers who created the CK have never used Photoshop or any other industry-standard program. Most of them have some pretty powerful workspace features, not to mention intuitive (and standardized) keyboard shortcuts.

Yes, the lack of pane locking is also slightly disappointing. That, and the child windows do not move with the main window (if you move the main window, the child windows just stay floating wherever they are).

I was however pleased that I wasnt told once by CK that I cant interact with a parent window with a child dialog open.

I would have been right annoyed if I had to close Spell, go into Magic Effects, Close Magic Effect, go back into Spell... etc

I'm pretty sure they have. The programmers who created the CK did so with the requirements which with they were presented. Remember that the CK is really a GUI for a development kit, not necessarily what your average user would consider a desktop application.

There is nothing wrong with the GUI it's the `guts` of the CK that counts and the CK is the best editor yet.
