Duplicating Cells

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 1:23 pm

After using Oblivion Construction set I was thinking we'd see an improvement with the Creation Kit. Alas, it seems the interface seems as rigid as before, but I guess I can handle that. One of the most irritating features is that when you go ahead and duplicate a cell, the original cell that has been duplicated is marked* as edited. Therefore you get all these extra records to your esp just due to duplication! Since this feature/bug is likely never to be fixed, I was wondering if there is a tool for Skyrim that is similar to TES4EDIT or TES4GECKO to get rid of those damn dirty records! Thanks in advance for anyone who is able to help. I'm sure this is a common problem and I hope there is a solution out there.

You can clear dirty records by "hiding" the record in the Details window from within the Load Plugin window. It's slow and time consuming but it works.

Dang !
Was thinking of (finally) getting my hands dirty in creation kit.
Isn't there any kind of TES5Edit that can clean mods like TES4Edit does ?

Apparently not. But I'm sure it'll pop up sooner or later. It's a pain in the butt to remove all those dirty records that you get no matter how careful you try to be.

So even though duplicating does nothing to parent cell, it is still doing *something* bad to the plugin..

GOD. The more [censored] I find out about the CK, the more I wonder what was the real reason for such a long delay.

Either Steam Workshop or the Xbox and PS3 setbacks. They were most likely delaying until they could get it on the consoles but it was taking so long they decided to push for the PC release to quell some of the rage. Then the Workshop idea comes along and they delay it more to get that implimented. Speciulation of course, but it looks pretty valid to me.

I noticed this too. Copying an object from one cell to another does this too. Let's just hope no one wants to build in Riverwood..... :P

It's not really doing anything "bad" to the plugin... Just some people are picky when it comes to their mods being "clean"

When you duplicate a cell, you ARE doing something to it. Just nothing that is visible in-game.

It is not just about being "picky". This has actual ramifications when you have your city/lanscape mods in your load order. A record/reference in an esp will ie. determine a position of a certain object in a town or a dungeon cell. Even if the record is identical to the record in the Skyrim.esm (and especially then) all changes for that record made in another esp will be disabled depending on the load order. Since these dirty records are unintentional, they are usually unknown even to the mod creator himself. This will thus much unwanted and unnecessary headache when you have several dirty mods in your load order. So it is not just nitpicking, dirty mods are a pain in the ass and are serious first world problem.
