Little bit of a snag while doing the tutorial

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 12:57 pm

Hello, please don't make fun of me, but I have a question in regards to an issue I'm having.
I'm on the wiki page following the quest tutorial, My question is, when I test it and go to my npc, the text shows up just fine, but it's too fast to read.

In the wiki, it talks about recording silence (Since I don't have a mic) long enough for the next. I've done this, but when I test my mod, it's still too fast.

Any ideas?

There are a few problems with the dialogue as it currently stands:
  • It flashes directly to the next choice list. (Since there's no audio, if you don't have captions on, you won't have any idea what he said. Even if you do, they probably flashed by so quickly you couldn't read.)
  • If you refuse to help, he'll just go right back to the same top level topic, which feels odd.
Luckily these are easily addressed.

Recording a Temp Track
Open up the GSQ01MeetingBenduBranchTopic and navigate through to its response window. At the bottom of the window, you'll see a "Record" button. Press this button and, if you have a microphone hooked up to your computer, you can record a performance of the line yourself. If you don't (or you're self-conscious and don't like the sound of your own voice) you can just record a few seconds of silence, enough to give the captions time to read. Hit the save button to commit this file to disk.

Do the same thing for the other two topics we made.
I'm guessing you forgot to save the sound file after recording it and thought it was telling you to save the plugin, or didn't record audio for the other two topics.

I'm pretty sure I saved the audio (The save button that is next to the record button, correct?) Also, do you have to tick the ".wav" box?

I don't think that matters. It doesn't tell you to, and it's not checked in the screenshot either. It's probably some weirdness with the configuration menu. Worst case scenario I'd try grabbing a different sound like

I had a similar problem because I forgot to set the voice type for the actor. If the box with voice-type is blank then go back to your
actor and set the voice type under traits. I think this is needed to make the directory and save the .wav file.
