Skyrim's Wilderness & Weather

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 6:54 am

The first time I saw Ivarstead (?) my jaw dropped. I came to the river and looked up and up and up... just wow.

Exploring much more with my new character.

The problem with Skyrim's wilderness and weather is that it's all incredibly familiar. It's just like Banff, Alberta with bits of British Columbia and Quebec.

oh shut up its beautiful. downer

Even though Skyrim doesn't have a top-notch graphics, I must agree that the wilderness really svcked me in, I feel like I'm really there, and of course, the weather, the day/night shift, these are really the strong points of Skyrim. :)

I really enjoy when the weather is clear ... but you can still see some brief clouds uplifting up the steep mountainsides. For the areas that I have been critical of this game, the wilderness landscapes and weather do make up for it. As other forum-goers have noticed, sometimes you just have to stop, look around, and take a screenshot with your character.

~spoilers~

That being said, to be selfish a little bit, it would have been nice to use the "Clear Skies" shout in any weather type at any place on the map. I tried it in Winterhold once and the snowstorm raged on. A guard noticed and ran up to me saying to stop ... it makes the townspeople nervous.
Yeah if you shout to much in a town the guard will do that. But there is no punishment if you continue to shout.

Wilderness

I'll tell ya, when your out there exploring the wilderness it's just so amazing! I mean it's so overwhelming and awesome and I think Bethesda did a superb job. When you're cruising through the snow covered forest and stalking wolves with a bow one a sunny days it's down right awesome! The trees look so realistic. My favorite place for the awesome wilderness feeling has got to be in the rift around riften and the lake(btw what's the name of riftens lake?) or around whiterun and near ivarstead. What do you think? Where's your favorite place in skyrim's wilderness?

Weather

Amazing job and in variation of the weather. The weather in riverwood has got to be the best. 70 and sunny baby! Love it. I also like walking in a snowy area on a sunny day. I really dont like the weather around winterhold and the college. I don't like it that snowy. What about you? Favorite weather?

Lastly, my favorite spot in the whole map has got to be on top the falkreath watchtower looking out. Amazing. Wbu?

:tes:
Cheers
good post my favorite area is the far north where the area becomes so artic , with its marooned ships black of night winter feel, and of course glaciers

Idk but are there areas that are like an amazon jungle or a dense forest. Any area with loads of trees? Like the woods or something. Also there arnt any deserts lol or massive areas with knee high grass or a savana. Would love to see all those areas and if they are in the game dont tell me where there located.

The weather changes way too quick. I havent yet been in a lightning storm. They could also add weather hazords like hail, tornados, super gusty winds that make it horrible to use a bow. They should add more natural stuff like rain causes certian areas to flood a bit and that water goes away in due time. Also snow areas were blizzerds could happen and players might get frezee effects or gain debuffs like hypothermia.
Also other factors like adding certian animal fur to armor for protection against the cold to armors or make alter armors to work better in certian conditions. Would be amazing if that was introduced.

Natural things like earthquakes and other stuff could be introduced as well which would make the game better tenfold.

I have not been to these places - I have only about 40 minutes of play under my belt .... however thanks to this thread I have made a note to stop by these areas and see for myself. So far compaired to TES IV: Oblivion I have been blown away by the look and feel of the world beth has created for Skyrim and am hoping that the engine will age more gracefully this time round.

The only thing I need is a cloudy sky, rain and thunder. That's the only weather I need.

Also a natural feel of animals hunting in pack wouldnt hurt. So far every time i meet a sabertooth its alone and then another comes after i kill the first and dont these animals ever have babys walkig around with them? Also would be freaking awesome to see a group of bandits, werewolfs, animals, and others trying to take over camps and towns as a pack or team. Would be totaly realistic to see some random town taken over by savage werewolfs and when you come by they try to hunt yo ass down. Would be nice to see a bear infested camp. Idk needs mkre natural feel.
