Leveling and progressing too fast?

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 3:45 pm

Hey fellow Skyrim'ers. Yes, that's a word! I'm lvl 36, around 100 hours play time, and maxed two handed and smithing *sadface*
Why sadface? Because I like having something to look forward to! In Oblivion, I maxed one-handed after 400 hours. And then Marksmanship and heavy armor after 500.
This gives me a feeling that I'm sooner "done" with this game than I hoped. I HATE that! Grr [insert some kind of angry face here]
Also, I'm a warrior with heavy armor and a big two handed. On master. And I don't die at all. Well I do play well, using the evoirment and healing up, and shouting to freeze and then bla bla bla...
But there isn't really any REAL challenge...
So the quiestion is, am I too good, or is the game too easy? Or should I quit crying and reroll something else? Well.. to be honest, I don't find this game to be a game you play over and over. Because it never ends!
After 800 hours of Oblivion gaming, and 600 Morrowind gaming... I only made TWO chars. One for Morro, and one for Oblivion. And in my RP head, it's the same dude. 'tis also the situation on Skyrim. Bah I don't know what I'm
saying now. I'm just sad that I maybe have to reroll in order to have something to look forward to... Maxing everything svckS! Atlest this early in the game...
Cheers!

Word of advice to those who feel like they're leveling too fast:

When you get out of the starter area on your way to Riverwood, don't touch the Guardian Stones.

I first turned lvl 50 yesterday, having maxed out my Sneaking, Lockpicking, Archery and Smithing skills (not having all perks though).. so, I chose to run around with dual One-Hand weapons instead and grow those skills, engaging myself in more melee combat so I also raise skill in Light and Heavy armor. Why not pick some flowers, berries and other ingredients and play with some Alchemy to raise that skill. After having played 230+ hours I still think it's challenging getting up in skill points (without 'cheating').

Reduce your fast travel and walk more. Then, go off the road and start running the dungeons.

It can take me 2-3 real life days to get to a quest area, because I'll do several dungeons along the way (each day) - based on about 5-7 hour playing per day.

My level 35 assassin has only completed the mage guild quests.

This is the sole reason I've yet to get very far into the MQ, never mind even beginning the civil war line before i trash the toon and begin all over again. Even ignoring the guardian stones at the beginning, I'm finding myself leveling too quickly and as such I lose interest as I'm around level 30 before I know it. They really do have to tweak the amount of xp you gain. I level twice in almost every cave/ruin/dungeon I enter, that can not be right.

Granted, i could just stay level 1 or remain at a lower level, but that's boring and means i miss out on perks and other things within the game.

QFT

Also, don't use trainers and don't powerlevel making useless items or casting useless spells.

Walk everywhere. I've just started a 'hardcoe' Orc 2H warrior character on Master, and I'm trying to go without every single aid I can. No crosshair, 30% HUD, no subtitles, hardest difficulty... and no fast travel. I've spent 5 hours exploring the caves surrounding Windhelm, trekking to Dawnstar, and investigating around there. The north east is mine, bizznatches! :)

Or, at least, it will be. I'm stuck in a cave atm, Master is ridiculous. :P

I get to 36 in four days.

It took you 100 hours.

I'd say you're doing just fine.

Quit focusing on maxing your skills and instead play the game. Your skills will take care of themselves.

4 Days is a 100 hours. Well, 96 hours assuming you don't sleep........

Skills do cap out a bit too fast, leading to drag, especially if you don't bounce around skill trees often enough. While I like the current uber flexible system it would be nice if the skill trees themselves had a soft cap so to speak at around level 50, making it easy to get into a tree, but harder to master. As I would say the only skill tree that it is detrimental to have at not 100 is sneak, but sneak at 100 is just as overpowered as lower level sneak is underpowered, so its more its own source of problems.

Soft cap for skills would indeed be nice!
Also, I don't focus at all on leveling. I play the game the way I want it to be played, which is with a big twohanded and my own crafted armour ;)

Ideally for me a single playthrough would take at a minimum 4 or 5 months. Preferably longer. And my level shouldn't get to 40 until almost the end. I would really like to drastically increase the number of uses that are needed for a skill rise. Can this be changed with a simple ini change?
