Skyrim is acting like Oblivion...

I love skyrim. It is one of the best games i have ever played.
I feel the same way about oblivion, however...

i thought the landscaping was supposed to be better this time around...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic6dKnv3WdU

that is the official e3 demo being run by todd howard on the xbox 360...
everything looks great, there arent any things just "popping" into view, which was something that really made oblivion kind of gay.

it looked the same for me on my 360 when i first got skyrim, but now somehow the quality of the scenery has really deteriorated...does this have something to do with all the patching thats been going on?

i spend 80 percent of my characters time outside, exploring.

having a mountain pop into view when you are just 20 feet away is lame.

i also noticed that when im standing on a mountain looking at the landscape, it just looks a lot worse than it used to. im not a techy guy so i dont know what to call these problems...all i know is that when skyrim came out, the world looked amazing. Now it acts like oblivion. : /

I installed the game to my hard drive to try to make it load faster (which didn't work btw). However the actual game runs a lot smoother and I haven't gotten any crashes in a few days. Perhaps you should try that?

Now you just stop that, Skyrim. Don't make me take out my belt.

Either I'm not very observant, or this isn't happening in my game. I can see a mountain from what seems like across the whole landscape, and walk to it looking at it the whole time, and nothing appears out of nowhere.

this can happen on all platforms (it is happening to me on pc), and from what I have researched it seems to be related to save file size. It does svck badly, and needs to be sorted out.

I actually played about 40-50 hours off of the CD. Before installing to my HD, I never had tearing or what you describe. Afterwards, I got some, not a lot, but some, tearing, still nothing like you describe. My guess is worldstate becoming more complex as you go on resulting in mem stolen from draws.

I've played over 200 hours, didn't notice mountains popping into view.. Sure, grass and such does pop-up, but mountains..? Nope. :o

About 70 hours in, so far I haven't had huge problems, get some tearing now and then, but nothing on the level of Oblivion.
