Simple Retexturing Problems with Daedric Sword

Hi guys,

So I'm relatively new to the modding community, at least from the mod creating end. I competed the tutorial that was up at the Creation Kit website, but I wanted to add something a little extra to my dungeon. I've been trying to get a simple re-texture to work on a Daedric Sword and I can't seem to get it to work. I've tried both editing the mesh and creating and selecting a new texture set for the weapon to see if will work but it doesn't. (I'd actually like to do it from the mesh so that the glow color of the crevices can be changed).

The thing that really bothers me is that the item actually loads fine and hangs out in the dungeon like a beast, but once I pick it up, it reverts back to it's original textures until I drop it again. I did retextures for both the regular and 1st person models, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Does anyone know what would cause the textures to revert in the inventory/while equipped? Thanks a lot. I'm having a great time, I just can't seem to figure out what could be wrong.

Also, if it helps, I don't seem to be able to refer to the new items RefID from the console, which seems strange, but perhaps this is the case with all mods?

Hopefully there's an answer out there, somewhere...

Okay, so not a lot of help so far... That's fine. Here's some ideas as to what I think might be wrong. I haven't been loading the HighRes textures in CK when I work on my .esm. Perhaps this has something to do with it? Is there a script that's switching out my texture with the higher res texture that I'm unaware of? The HighRes textures don't have meshes along with them do they? I don't really see why this would be a problem actually though, seeing as the mesh that I'm referencing is named something completely different anyhow.

Other than that, could someone at least help me to figure out why I can't refer to the new item in game with the console? I've tried both the RefID and the WeaponName EditorID, and neither are recognized in the game. I'm going to keep on trying to figure this out, I'll post more as the night continues.

Well folks, I fixed it; well I fixed most of it. The static version of the sword was still referring to the old mesh. I didn't realize that the item rendered in the inventory was the static version, but I guess somehow it is, or at least it sure seemed like that. This will work fine for now, at least until I'm comfortable enough at modelling to make my own. Perhaps this post will last another couple hours so at least someone who might have the same problem some time will know the answer.

Cheers.
