A tower light issue

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:05 am

The scenario: I have a multi-story tower with a portal in on of the floors. I want to put a light in this room that will shine into the hallways surounding it.

The issue: The light bleeds into the floors above and below as well as the stairs and walls where there should be a wall blocking the light.

The request: Is there a way to isolate the light so that is will still reach the outer hall of the tower (imperial) but not reach the areas that don't make sense. Perhaps a property on the objects it's shining through to not allow light to enter from outside?

You need to change the light to one that casts shadows. Then it will go only where it would make sense.

Yeah, tried that. Ended up messing up the entire lighting scheme. The actual light disappeared and all the colors made like the early 90s. It was almost like playing doom again...well, maybe a little better than that.

Ok, so I took some shot of this. It's really bugging me as I have high hopes for this type of lighting. These are on my own site (Old WoW guild) so they are safe links.

If anyone sees something wrong please let me know. note: The never fades doesn't seem to do anything and the render is the same with and without it checked, same with Casts shadows.
