Is there a easier way to move in the render window?

Is there a easier way to move in the render window? I am trying to place my dragon at the top of throat of the world but the camera goes all `lame` (It moves like 50 feet to the left, right up or down when I only want to move a foot or so) and I can't get close enough to where I want to place the dragon.

You need to highlight a reference near your target and the click SHIFT-F. This will allow you to rotate the camera on that object.

I tried highlighting a reference and editing the movement settings under preferences before but the cam still pans/moves far to much.

My camera is also hard to control; it gets stuck rotating around an object that's been deselected. I can't seem to figure it out.

As for your panning issue, it seems to do that for me when I select and object and then change cells/world spaces.

Hold space and move your mouse. Will keep angle locked but allow movement.

File -> Preferences -> Movement -> Camera Movement

Mine are set to the default settings:

Rotation Speed - 1.00
Invert X - checked
Invert Y - unchecked
Zoom Speed - 0.40
Zoom Speed (Orthographic) - 0.0010
Pan Speed - 5.00
Invert X - checked
Invert Y - checked
Zoom with 'V' key - checked

Lowering the Rotation Speed with make you rotate slower. Likewise with zoom and Pan speeds.

So...anyone know what the deal is with my camera getting stuck rotating around objects? Even if deselected, it'll still use the object's center as a reference point. The selected object's ID window thing (in the bottom left) doesn't seem to update properly. After making an object, i need to click on it again for its ID to appear. Does anyone know the cause/solution to this?

EDIT: I've figured it out, I hit control+f to set it back to free camera. Is it possible to delete this reply? If not, sorry for the unnecessary post.

Also the camera always pans around itself. You can move the camera angle like you normally did in MW and OB by holding shift and f. You can also zoom around with less magnitude by holding v.

edit: meh ninja'd :P
