Any tips on getting shield racksmounts to work.

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 8:09 pm

Still can't get my invisible gizmo back but I moved on.

I need some hints on how to correct the alignment of placed weapons in a shield mount but this is probably applicable on all mounts/displays.

The problem is that the weapons are being put up above the mount instead of on it. Almost like they're flipped vertically from what's expected.

I've tried:
  • copying the complete set of objects from an existing cell/house but they all act the same way ~ and turning off initially disabled.
  • aligning them all perfectly
  • flipping the triggers, activator and initial weapon reference.
No luck. Any hints?

I have this same problem with a weapon rack I made.
It works fine in the position I origianlly made it but if I rotate it 90 degrees the weapons hang upside down, rotate it back and its fine.

I'm still trying out various things with snapping and rotation but they don't seem to do much.

Hmm, if I copy an existing one and leave it at the same rotation it works. Guess I just have to find on with the right rotation. And it seems to work so long as it's rotated 180-o and not 90o

Scratch that. It works sometimes when flipped 180o. I pulled the two out of proudspire manner into my cell but only one of them works after it's rotated 180o. And after I did that the initial weapon references havoc settle / fall to the ground.

Getting warmer. It's related to the rotation snapping for sure... at least when copying a shield mount from an existing room.

When I turned off grid snap -- because that sends it all out of whack anyway -- then turned off rotation snapping and I could rotate the mount all I wanted.

It's weird though. I checked the position of every part before I moved it and checked again afterwards -- with all snaps on -- and they were the same. So I can only figure that this is a bug of some kind with snapping.

I have been doing the same thing, I initially thought it was because I pulled the weapon rack from Breezhome but the same thing happens with the ones in the warehouse cell.

I cant get my head around how or why it flips them upside down just from rotating either.

Hopefully someone comes along and sheds some light on the issue.

I just went in and made my own, just a single rack for one weapon, made the links and it still does the same thing.
So that eliminates copying it as the source of the problem.

Now this is becoming frustrating, surely there is someone who knows whats going on here.

For almost all weaponRack, I had the same problem, the weapons falls on the ground or appears anywhere near the rack but not on it. I have eliminated the problem by rotating the rack and the activator by 1°. So for the Z axis, I use -1°, 89°, 179° or -79°. Once the rack works, I can select everything, rack and activator, duplicate, move and rotate it using the angle snaping. The little slot between the rack and the wall caused by this angle is not visible.

For the single WeaponRack, I used an angle of -0.0001° for the Y axis with the same result, perfectly working.

Oh Man thank you so much.

This is an issue I caused myself then becaue I made all the rack pieces snap together.

Going off now to put it right.

Thanks again.

Yep this fixed it , I cant help but wonder why that 1o makes the difference.

I did notice this on the existing wall mounts. The all had one of the rotation axis at ex. 90.003o or 180.003o. Though when I tried that the results were the same... BUT only doing it to the Y axis works like a charm. [and Z axis works on the shield mounts]

Thanks. Too bad I already got them working by sheer luck.

Oh and a side tip: If you notice that only a small part of the weapon allows a pickup, try bumping it out from the wall a bit -- if there is any wall-lip above or below your placement.
