Having trouble making a follower

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:19 am

I have made my person and added everything I want on him, he's even in the game as a NPC, I was wondering if there was a way to make him a follower? I saw on the steam workshop there was followers so it must be possible. Just wondering if anyone knew the solution.

Thanks and please help me :D,

You only need to add the propper factions to the NPC.

I'm pretty new as well. I imagine the best place to start would be with an existing follower. For example Lydia.

Open the Whiterun house cell in the editor and edit base on Lydia. You will find loads of imformation on how she is set up.

Possibly duplicate her and change all her settings and name etc.

The following procedure has been posted here a number of times.

If you want to make someone a follower, follow these steps:

1. Make the NPC and place him ingame as the tutorial tells you to do: http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Creating_an_Actor

2. When you are done, go to the 'Factions' tab

3. Right-click in the table found there. A menu will drop down. Press 'New'

4. Another window opens up. Search for CurrentFollowerFaction. When found, select it and press OK. If done correctly, the faction is added to the list.

5. Now click twice (not doubleclick, just 2 slow clicks) on the number in front of CurrentFollowerFaction, in the Rank column. Set this number to -1.

6. Repeat step 3, but now you search for PotentialFollowerFaction. Select it and press OK. The rank number stays 0.

7. Now go to the 'Relationships' tab and right-click in the table. Press new. Another window opens.

8. Do the following things:
* Type a fancy name in ID.
* Leave ParentNPC untouched.
* Turn the field ChildNPC into 'Player'
* Turn RelationShipLevel into 'Ally'.
* Press OK

Now save your plugin and test it in your game.

Awesome this worked! One last thing, is there a way to make them not count towards your follower number? with other peoples mods I have a small army of followers ;D

Edit: this process does not work for animals, anybody know the one for animals?

You have to either edit the creatures race or copy it and make a custom race for it ( if you don't want to edit the main race) and make sure you check the box that allow pc dialog and un-check the box that says cant open doors. Also when making a copy of an existing race make sure to set Morph Race and Armor Race under copy data to the race you copy or it will be invisible.

Do you know why when I do the last step, with the relationship part, the relationship field just stays blank after I press OK? :\.

Thought I'd ask here instead of creating a new thread: how would I go about making a character a follower after completing a quest, like most of the vanilla followers? Is it dependent on the relationship level with the PC? So, make the NPC an acquaintance to begin with, but set it to ally (3?) when the quest completes?

I just made a http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1350672-setrelationshiprank-quest-stage-fragment/ asking pretty much the same thing not too long ago(no responses yet though). I think Ive got most of it right, Im just having problems with either the Alias or quest scripts. The Package part seems pretty much the same.

I can't make relationships with any of my new NPC's. They're simply not there. When I don't but in anything for Parent NPC no relationship is made at all. I've tried leaving it, and I've tried reloading it. Nothing has worked so far. Any tips? I think I should make a topic, because I don't think im the only guy with this problem.

It wouldn't work, the drop down box appears but my NPC's are never in there.
