Only Deadra wants my help? -tiny spoilers-

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 5:12 pm

So i realised that every time a god asked for my help, it was a Deadric lord...
So far it happened twice with the abandonned house in Markath (dont remember his name), the statue of the a certain female god (name starting with a M) and Azura.

It feels like the game wants me to be on the bad side. it doesnt really bother me since i play a cannibal, murderer, thief Bosmer.

thats not mentionning the other persons like "mother", the god that thieves praise (im not sure who she is) and probably others that i still havent met.

You can do quests for several of the Eight Divines, although I believe these are all received by members of their clergy and you do not talk to them directly.

You can, on a mostly "good" aligned toon, get by with doing Meridia and Azura. I do Mehrunes Dagon - to the point at which I get to tell him to *ahem* off (at which point, you get to kill a couple of Kynval, then go into the shrine and kill a couple of Churls, then clean out the place - damn good loot it is too!)

The rest of them.... well, any toon I have actually doing the MQ (only a couple out of 15 and counting) might as well do Hermaeus Mora - because the only real downside is listening to him, and the upside is the Oghma Infiinium. Sanguine.... LOVE his questline, but I've only met Sam on a couple of toons so far. The rest of them.... nope, not going there.

Three of them. Mara, Dibella, & Kynareth.

Not all Daedric Princes are evil by our understanding of it, they do however have extremist views, consider themselves superior to all life and consider their worshipers their pets. Azura for example shows concern over her subjects unlike most of the other Princes.

Just avoid Boethiah, Molog Bal, and Mehrunes Dagon if you hate dealing with the truly evil ones.

Heh.... as I said, you don't really have to "deal" with Mehrunes Dagon.... other than let the "mark" go with the pieces of the razor, and then kill the dremora.

This post got me wondering, are divines real divines in TES lore? Or are they just a fragment of the past that people believe to be holy?

They are most certainly real in TES lore. They just aren't as present physically as the Daedric Princes, but they have shown up before in Morrowind and Oblivion through avatars.

As far as I am concerned most of the Daedric Lords are neutral (though selfish) to good.

Molag Bal, Boethiah, Mehrunes Dagon, Mephala, Namira, and Vaermina are all clearly evil.

Molag dominates through force
Boethiah and Mephala use deceit to turn allies against each other
Namira enjoys cannibalism (which would suit your character)
Dagon heralds change through destruction and war
Vaermina consumes dreams and replaces the mwith nightmares.

Out of 17 daedric Lords, that is only 6 that are evil.

Also, it is possible to serve the Divines through quests:
Spoiler
You can restore the Gildergreen in the name of Kynareth (and can learn the ways of old Kyne through hunting in a different quest), Spread love throughout Skyrim for Mara, and rescue Dibella's Sybil.

EDIT: miscounted

Seriously, how arrogant that boy is, I think he deserved to be crushed. Plus in your hands, the Razor and its power depends on you.

I have zero use for daggers. I'd rather have a nice daedric war axe thanks.

We have Daedra and Aedra (which are the Divines), they created the world but they very rarely interfere with mortals, unlike Daedra who do it for pleasure and amusemant. I should mention but Talos is not an original part of the Divines.

But if you break them down carefully, they're merely an everyday ritual to what we believe to be symbols of Human Civilisation. Where as in Daedric nature is one of the wild or laws of nature.

No it's not. It has a small chance to kill on hit. But it does about half the real damage. And it looks like a cheap plastic imitation. When I have trouble killing at level toons with a war axe, I'll let you know.

Same could be said for our God(s) in real life, and our various religions.

Aedra are not seen, yet worshipped.
Daedra are seen and worshipped.

At least in TES you could make the Yin/Yang arguement where if a polar evil exists (say the Daedra) then a polar good must exist to balance it (the Aedra)

And there's really no reason a good character couldn't do Vaermina's quest, since you're not really working for her, but actually helping to solve the nightmare problem of which she is the cause.

In TES III, there was a group of four Daedra lords who were referred to as the Four Corners of the House of Troubles or somesuch. I know Mehrunes Dagon was one of them, but who were the other three?

There are a few ways to solve some of the quests and get the rewards by being less evil. For example with Boethiah you can slaughter all the followers at her temple when you first meet them and (if the quest wasn't bugged and the dialogue would play), you would then hunt down her champion and kill him. Since you're only killing followers of Boethiah, and a few bandits, you're being rewarded by evil for killing evil. With Hircine you can either kill the werewolf or the hunters and get the reward. I haven't played through all the quests yet, but there are some less evil solutions if you look for them.
