Uncompressed textures- Free pc dlc? (possibly with less comp

I would realy like some free dlc that gives away the textures for skyrim before they were made smaller (Too work on the small memory of consoles)

Yes, pc users do get mods, but i would realy like to see what skyrim would have looked as Bethesda's artists intended!! Plus many texture artists in the mod community overlook some of the game's assets (Blocky faces was done instantly, but it would take some time for people to make better statues or less blocky robes and many people don't know how to make bump or specular maps)

as for less compressed models- Some of the game's models look rather blocky and i am guessing that bethesda didn't originaly create them so! Whilst some of the alpha models might have a ridiculous amount of polygons in i guess that they could be compressed to a lesser extent to what they ended up as. (correct me politely if i am wrong?)

It Provides no loss to Bethesda! (or console users, for that matter)

Fans get happier
Steam handles the downloads
Valve are one of the least draconian publishers and Won't force a pricetag on it . Plus steam's publishing cut for the game is probably better than Microsoft's and Sony's! (Valve are beautiful people and all of this together equals more money in bethesda's pocket)

You know, you have a good point. When you work on a texture, you always work on it at high resolutions with high details, and then you scale down. Anyone who does the opposite is stupid because the results get far worse.

Some textures in Skyrim on PC are extremely bad and low res and looks like just a blurry, blocky mess. These can't be the original textures made from the start before scaled down. How come they aren't in the PC version then? How come the PC version is left with low res, blocky textures? Were they 'lost' in the process? Do Bethesda simply don't care or bother?

There are many questionmarks concerning the PC version. This is one of them. Another is the engine having over 10 years old unoptimized code, when Bethesda easily could have used a compiler and probably make the game run a 100% better (yes you read right, 100% better, which means a lot people would get a constant 60 FPS everywhere, even in cities and in large battles).

It will be interesting to see if Beth offers a high res texture pack, especially since the Skyrim HD mod is already up and is fairly nice (considering it was done in a month or so by one person in his free time).

The other huge issue that Beth always has is the awful character visual aesthetics. This is common for Western gaming companies, of course. However, with DLC, it simply makes no sense at all not to offer the players a choice, particularly in RPGs where the character aestheticcs are critical for empathy and immersion.

A similar, or at least related, point can be made for the clothing/apparel/armor, etc. After all, there is a reason why clothing mods are some of the most popular. Companies who do not offer a choice for players are simply missing what the market actually wants (and an additional revenue stream, of course). It's a very poor business decision.

It's brilliant! I use it alongside another water mod and i was thinking of trying out a mod that alters the game's lighting too.

BUT
1: it does not cover everything, nor will it in conjunction to other mods!
2: Some of it is less faithful to bethesda's work than other parts.

Texture compression isn't the issue.

It's texture resolution.
